BUCELON 2MG TABLET contains Busulfan, which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-cancer agents. It is used to manage certain types of blood cancer, such as chronic myeloid leukemia (cancer of white blood cells in the blood), polycythemia vera (cancer of red blood cells in the blood), and thrombocythemia (increased platelet levels).
It can also be used to manage bone marrow cancer (such as myelofibrosis). When used prior to haemopoietic progenitor stem cell transplantation, BUCELON 2MG TABLET can suppress the functions of immune cells (white blood cells) and manage transplant rejection among patients who have a high WBC count or leukemia.
Before taking BUCELON 2MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have any lung, liver, or kidney problems. You must also inform your doctor if you recently had radiotherapy for cancer, gout, or any other blood problems.
BUCELON 2MG TABLET should not be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women due to increased risk of side effects. Both men and women receiving BUCELON 2MG TABLET must use a suitable contraceptive method to avoid pregnancy while undergoing therapy with BUCELON 2MG TABLET.
The most common side effects of taking BUCELON 2MG TABLET are nausea, vomiting, mouth sores, diarrhea, hair loss, a decrease in blood cell count, and infertility. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects worsen.
USES OF BUCELON 2MG TABLET
It is used to manage:
- blood cancer (chronic myeloid leukemia, polycythemia vera, and thrombocythemia)
- bone marrow cancer (myelofibrosis)
- transplant rejection when given to patients who have a high WBC count prior to haemopoietic progenitor stem cell transplantation
HOW BUCELON 2MG TABLET WORKS
BUCELON 2MG TABLET is an anticancer medicine. It acts by damaging the genetic material (DNA) of cancer cells. This manages the cancer cells from growing and multiplying within the body. When used prior to stem cell transplantation, BUCELON 2MG TABLET can also suppress the functions of immune cells (white blood cells) in patients who have a high WBC count or leukemia.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take BUCELON 2MG TABLET as directed by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending on your age, body weight, and disease condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF BUCELON 2MG TABLET
COMMON
- nausea, vomiting
- diarrhoea
- mouth ulcers
- decrease in blood cells (red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets)
- hair loss
- visible dark patches of the skin
- lung inflammation (pneumonitis, pneumonia syndrome)
- infertility both in men and women (causing lack of periods, early menopause, low sperm production)
- delayed puberty in girls
- yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes (jaundice) and liver damage
- heart rhythm problems
- bloody urine or difficulty in urination
RARE
- fits (seizures)
- eye problems or cataracts
- dry mouth
- skin rashes, dry, or itching skin
Stop taking BUCELON 2MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- any signs of fever or infection (chills, sore throat, mouth sores, cough, urinary problems)
- abnormal bleeding and bruising (discoloration of the skin)
- sudden feeling of unwellness
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Diarrhea
Drink plenty of fluids, such as water, fruit juices, or electrolytes, to avoid dehydration in your body. Consult your doctor if your symptoms worsen.
Mouth Ulcers
Use a soft toothbrush to brush your teeth. Avoid eating spicy and acidic foods such as beverages, sodas, and processed foods. Also, you may use over-the-counter pain-relieving oral gel to get some relief.
Nausea And Vomiting
Take BUCELON 2MG TABLET with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil-rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if your vomiting worsens.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
ContraindicatedBUCELON 2MG TABLET is not recommended for use by pregnant women. Women of childbearing age must use a suitable contraceptive before and during management with BUCELON 2MG TABLET to avoid pregnancy.
BREASTFEEDING
ContraindicatedBUCELON 2MG TABLET is not recommended for use by breastfeeding women. However, consult your doctor before taking it.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Use with CautionBUCELON 2MG TABLET does not cause any side effects that affect your ability to drive or operate any machines. If you experience any side effects that impairs your ability to concentrate, avoid driving and operating machines.
ALCOHOL
ContraindicatedConsumption of alcohol is not recommended during management with BUCELON 2MG TABLET.
KIDNEY
Use with CautionBUCELON 2MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
LIVER
Use with CautionBUCELON 2MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
ALLERGY

LUNGS

USE IN PEDIATRICS

- inherited thalassemia (a blood disorder that results in low levels of hemoglobin in the blood)
- ever had gout (joint pain due to the accumulation of uric acid in joints)
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking BUCELON 2MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines, such as:
- other chemotherapy medicines (used to manage cancer) such as cyclophosphamide, cisplatin, carboplatin, and methotrexate
- itraconazole (a medicine used to manage fungal infections)
- metronidazole (a medicine used to manage bacterial and protozoal infections)
- phenytoin (a medicine used to manage fits)
- deferasirox (a medicine used to remove excess iron from the body)
- live-attenuated vaccines to manage infections (such as oral polio and the MMR vaccine)
- paracetamol (used to manage fever and pain)
- anaesthetics (used to cause numbness before surgery) Ex. lidocaine, enflurane, isoflurane, propofol
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally took more BUCELON 2MG TABLET, consult your doctor or visit the nearby hospital immediately. Overdosage may cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased activity of bone marrow, and low levels of blood cells.
