Introduction About BPMET XL 25MG TABLET
BPMET XL 25MG TABLET contains Metoprolol which belongs to the group of medicines called Antihypertensives. It is used in adults to manage essential hypertension (persistently high blood pressure, that can show symptoms like headache, sweating, fast heartbeat or throbbing sensation).
BPMET XL 25MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with certain heart diseases and should be used with caution in patients having liver diseases. BPMET XL 25MG TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant and breast-feeding woman.
Safety and effectiveness of BPMET XL 25MG TABLET in children (less than 6 years of age) have not been established so, consult your child’s doctor for advice. BPMET XL 25MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients.
The most common side effects of taking BPMET XL 25MG TABLET are tiredness, dizziness, depression, diarrhea, shortness of breath, slow heartbeat and rash. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms are not improving.

How BPMET XL 25MG TABLET Works
BPMET XL 25MG TABLET effectively lowers blood pressure by reducing the effect of stress hormones on the heart due to physical and mental exertion, resulting in reduced pulse rate.
How to use BPMET XL 25MG TABLET
Take BPMET XL 25MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow this medicine with water, do not crush or chew it. Correct dosage and duration of medicine to be taken will be prescribed by your doctor depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Do not stop taking BPMET XL 25MG TABLET unless your doctor advises you to stop.
Side Effects Of BPMET XL 25MG TABLET
Common
- tiredness, dizziness

- shortness of breath, bradycardia (slow heartbeat)
- itching, rash
Rare
Stop taking BPMET XL 25MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- difficulty breathing
- severely low heart rate
- signs of heart failure (weight gain, increasing breathlessness)
How To Manage Side Effects
Dizziness:
When you start taking BPMET XL 25MG TABLET, you may feel dizzy. If this happens, resting or lying down for some time can help. This is caused by your blood pressure decreasing. It should get better as you continue to take the medicine. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Skin rash:
Try to avoid hot showers because it may cause skin irritation. Avoid frequent contact and rubbing over the affected area. Use sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.
Diarrhea:
Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.

Pregnancy
BPMET XL 25MG TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant women. Consult your doctor for advice.
Breastfeeding
BPMET XL 25MG TABLET should be used with caution in breastfeeding woman. Consult your doctor for advice.
Liver
BPMET XL 25MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients having liver impairment. Consult your doctor for advice.
Allergy
BPMET XL 25MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you are allergic to S-Metoprolol, other beta blockers like propranolol, atenolol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Lungs
BPMET XL 25MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients having bronchospastic diseases (tightening of airways). Consult your doctor for advice.
Heart Disease
BPMET XL 25MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with second- or third-degree heart block, decompensated heart failure, heart rhythm disorder (sinus bradycardia and sick sinus syndrome), cardiogenic shock, severe peripheral arterial circulatory disorder, acute myocardial infarction. Consult your doctor for advice.
Others
Before taking BPMET XL 25MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- have diabetes and low blood sugar levels
- have pheochromocytoma (tumour of adrenal glands)
- have thyroid problem
- are going to have any surgery

Safety and effectiveness of BPMET XL 25MG TABLET in children (less than 6 years of age) have not been established. Consult your child’s doctor for advice.
Use in Geriatrics:
BPMET XL 25MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor for advice.
Interactions
A. Drug - Drug interactions:
Before taking BPMET XL 25MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- medicines used to manage high blood pressure and heart problems (Ex. reserpine, quinidine, propafene, diltiazem, verapamil, clonidine, digoxin)
- certain medicines used to manage depression (Ex. selegiline, phenelzine, fluoxetine, paroxetine)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of BPMET XL 25MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. The symptoms of overdose are severely low blood pressure, breathing problems, nausea or vomiting.

What if I forget to take a dose of BPMET XL 25MG TABLET?
If you forget to take a dose of BPMET XL 25MG TABLET, take it as soon as you remember. However, omit the missed dose if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not take the medicine twice to make up for a forgotten dose.
Is BPMET XL 25MG TABLET safe in pregnant women?
