Introduction About BOOSTRIX PREFILLED SYRINGE(PFS)
BOOSTRIX PREFILLED SYRINGE(PFS) contains Diphtheria Toxoid and Tetanus Toxoid which belongs to the group of medicines called Vaccines. It is used in adults and children aged 5 years and more as booster medicine for protection against diphtheria and tetanus. Diphtheria is a contagious bacterial infection which infects the nose and throat and, in some cases, the skin also mostly affects children.
The symptoms of diphtheria are fever, sore throat, breathing and swallowing difficulty, a thick grey-white coating covering the back of the throat, nose, and tongue, and swollen glands in the neck. Tetanus is a serious bacterial infection that occurs when bacteria enter the body through cuts, burns, animal bites, etc. Symptoms of tetanus infection are lockjaw (jaw muscle stiffness), fever, rapid heartbeat, sweating, and muscle spasms.
BOOSTRIX PREFILLED SYRINGE(PFS) should not be administered as a primary immunisation against diphtheria and tetanus. BOOSTRIX PREFILLED SYRINGE(PFS) administration should be delayed if you or your child is suffering from a moderate or severe acute illness with or without a fever. In patients with compromised immune systems, BOOSTRIX PREFILLED SYRINGE(PFS) should be used with caution.
BOOSTRIX PREFILLED SYRINGE(PFS) should only be used in pregnant women after consulting with a doctor. Before using, consult your doctor. BOOSTRIX PREFILLED SYRINGE(PFS) can be used by breastfeeding women. BOOSTRIX PREFILLED SYRINGE(PFS) is not recommended for children under the age of five.
The most common side effects after receiving BOOSTRIX PREFILLED SYRINGE(PFS) are redness and swelling at the injection site, fever, malaise, headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and muscle pain. Consult your doctor right away if any side effects worsen.

How to use BOOSTRIX PREFILLED SYRINGE(PFS)
BOOSTRIX PREFILLED SYRINGE(PFS) will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into the muscle as an intramuscular injection. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of management depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of BOOSTRIX PREFILLED SYRINGE(PFS)
Common
- fever 38°C
- malaise, headache, dizziness
- nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea
- muscle pain
- redness and swelling at the site of injection administration
Uncommon
- eczema (inflamed, itchy, cracked, and rough skin)
- dermatitis (skin inflammation)
- swelling and redness more than 6 cm diameter at the injection site
Rare
- fever 40°C
- urticaria
- anaphylactic reactions
- granuloma at the site of injection
How To Manage Side Effects
Diarrhea
Drink plenty of water or fruit juices to keep you hydrated. Don’t take any medicine on your own for managing diarrhoea. Contact your doctor if diarrhoea worsens.
Headache
Rest and relax. Drink plenty of water and electrolytes. Apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if needed. Do not consume alcohol. Contact your doctor if your headache did not improve.
Nausea And Vomiting
Take the medicine, with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food. Contact your doctor if nausea and vomiting worsen.
Skin rash Or Itching
Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate the skin and does not scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and protective clothing when going outdoors or use unscented moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the skin. Contact your doctor if the itching persists.

Breastfeeding

Safeyou can operate machinery and drive after receiving BOOSTRIX PREFILLED SYRINGE(PFS).
Allergy
ContraindicatedDo not receive BOOSTRIX PREFILLED SYRINGE(PFS) if you are allergic to Tetanus toxoid, diphtheria toxoid, formaldehyde, or any other ingredients of the medicine.
Use In Pediatrics
ContraindicatedBOOSTRIX PREFILLED SYRINGE(PFS) is not recommended for use in children less than 5 years of age consult your doctor before receiving it.
Others
BOOSTRIX PREFILLED SYRINGE(PFS) is not recommended for use:
- as primary immunisation against diphtheria and tetanus
Before receiving BOOSTRIX PREFILLED SYRINGE(PFS) inform your doctor if you or your child have:
- moderate or severe acute illness with or without fever as administration of BOOSTRIX PREFILLED SYRINGE(PFS) should be postponed in such case
- compromised immune system

Before receiving BOOSTRIX PREFILLED SYRINGE(PFS), inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- chloramphenicol (a medicine used for the management of bacterial infections)

BOOSTRIX PREFILLED SYRINGE(PFS) will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse immediately if you experience any unusual symptoms.
