    Introduction About BIODINE OINTMENT

    BIODINE OINTMENT contains Povidone-Iodine, which belongs to the group of medicines called Broad-spectrum antiseptics. BIODINE OINTMENT is used as an antiseptic for the management of minor damage or infection of the skin. It kills harmful infection-causing microorganisms.

    It also helps in the management of infection in burns, lacerations, cuts, and abrasions, management of common skin infections, and infection control following circumcision, suture removal, and dressing changes, degerming care of stasis ulcers, decubitus ulcers, and the umbilical area, and in other procedures where degerming is needed.

    Before using BIODINE OINTMENT, inform your doctor if you have any kind of allergies, if you currently have or have ever had a thyroid problem, if you are currently having lithium therapy for depression, if your skin is broken (for example, due to a burn), or if you currently have, or have ever had, a kidney problem.

    BIODINE OINTMENT should be used with caution among pregnant and breastfeeding women and the elderly. BIODINE OINTMENT is not recommended for use in children less than 2 years of age. The common side effects of using BIODINE OINTMENT are burning, irritation, itching, and redness. Consult your doctor if any of your symptoms get worse or persist.

    How BIODINE OINTMENT Works

    BIODINE OINTMENT contains povidone-iodine. The antimicrobial action of povidone-iodine starts after iodine dissociates from the complex component. Once in the free form, iodine rapidly penetrates microbial cell membranes and interacts with important cell-forming components, like proteins, nucleotides, and fatty acids in the cytoplasm and cytoplasmic membrane and destroys them.

    How to use BIODINE OINTMENT

    Apply BIODINE OINTMENT as advised by your physician. It is for external use only. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your condition.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug Interactions:

    • medicines used to manage some mental problems (Ex. lithium)
    • medicines for the management of thyroid (Ex. thyroxine)

    If you or anyone else accidentally uses too much of BIODINE OINTMENT, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. You may experience any of the following symptoms, like stomach pain, being unable to pass urine, loss of appetite, weakness, nausea, vomiting, coughing up blood, excessive sweating, difficulty breathing, metabolic acidosis, anxiety, and pale skin, immediately consult the doctor.
