BIOCILIN 125MG SYRUP contains Ampicillin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to manage bacterial infections of the ear, respiratory tract (bronchus, lungs), urinary tract, genital tract, stomach, blood, brain or skin and soft tissues.
It can also be used to manage typhoid fever and can manage endocarditis (inflammation of the lining of the heart and its valves) after any surgery or a dental procedure.
BIOCILIN 125MG SYRUP should be taken on an empty stomach. It is important to take BIOCILIN 125MG SYRUP for the stipulated duration instructed by your doctor to achieve better results even if you feel better during the midway of the therapy. Failing to complete the full course of the therapy or skipping doses in between the therapy may not result in adequate infection control.
During therapy with BIOCILIN 125MG SYRUP, your doctor will periodically monitor your health condition through several blood tests/urine tests to access the improvement in your condition and to reduce the risk of unwanted side effects.

How BIOCILIN 125MG SYRUP Works
BIOCILIN 125MG SYRUP is a bactericidal agent. It kills the susceptible bacteria by blocking the bacterial cell wall synthesis that is essential for the bacterial cell to survive. This action destroys the susceptible bacteria, manage their further growth and multiplication and reduce the severity of the infection.
How to use BIOCILIN 125MG SYRUP
Take BIOCILIN 125MG SYRUP on an empty stomach or at least 30 minutes to 1 hour before meals. Shake the bottle well to loosen the dry powder. Add the sterile water provided with this pack up to the ring mark present on the bottle surface. Add extra water if required to adjust the volume up to the ring mark. Close the bottle tightly and shake the mixture well.
Measure and consume the reconstituted mixture as advised by your doctor.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and severity of the infection.
Do not stop taking BIOCILIN 125MG SYRUP once your symptoms subside. It is important to complete course of therapy with BIOCILIN 125MG SYRUP to achieve better control over the infection.
Side Effects Of BIOCILIN 125MG SYRUP

Stop taking BIOCILIN 125MG SYRUP and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- signs of severe allergic reactions (such as skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, throat or tongue causing difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
- signs of stomach damage causing severe uncontrollable watery diarrhoea, feeling weak and fever
- severe skin reactions (such as widespread skin rash with blistering and swelling)
- bloody urine, lower back or difficulties in urination (signs of kidney problems)
- yellowing of skin and whites of the eye (signs of liver problems)
How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea or vomiting:
Take BIOCILIN 125MG SYRUP with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. Please consult your doctor immediately if you experience severe nausea and vomiting.
Diarrhea:
Drink plenty of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Consuming ORS can also be beneficial. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor. If your diarrhea worsens, contact your doctor immediately.

Pregnancy

A. Drug - Drug interactions:

- cytotoxic drugs such as methotrexate (used to manage rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis or malignant diseases such as lymphatic leukaemia)
- chloroquine (used to manage malaria)
- oral typhoid vaccine (used to manage typhoid)
- oral contraceptive pill (birth control pills) Ex. ethinylestradiol, drospirenone
- allopurinol, sulfinpyrazone or probenecid (medicines used to manage gout)
- other antibiotics (used to manage bacterial infections) such as tetracycline, erythromycin and chloramphenicol
- anticoagulants such as warfarin or phenindione
