Introduction About BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS
BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS contains Betamethasone, which belongs to the group of medicines called Corticosteroids. It is used to manage redness and swelling of the eyes, nose and ears where there is no infection. The swelling of the skin arises when an allergic reaction or skin irritation releases several substances in the skin that widens the blood vessels and causes itching, pain, redness and swelling in the irritated area.
Do not use BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS while wearing contact lenses. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before instilling BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS and wait for at least 15 minutes before wearing contact lenses again.
BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS is not recommended for use in patients who have a perforated eardrum, eye infection producing pus and is sticky, ulcers in the eye(shingles) or glaucoma (increased pressure within the eye). BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS should be used with caution in patients having tuberculosis, redness of the eye of unknown cause or thinning of the outermost layer of the eye (cornea and sclera).
BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS should be used with caution among women who are pregnant or breastfeeding only if advised by your doctor. BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS should be used with caution in children, adolescents and elderly patients. Contact your doctor immediately if you feel any unusual symptoms while using BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS.

How BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS Works
BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS inhibits certain chemical pathways in the body which reduces the formation of substances (arachidonic acid) that causes pain. It also enhances anti-inflammatory genes like interleukin. Therefore, helping in reducing pain and inflammation.
How to use BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS
Use BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS as advised by your doctor. It is for external use only. Do not touch the dropper tip to your eye/ear surface. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, condition and body weight.
Side Effects Of BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS
Rare
Stop using BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS and contact your physician immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- allergic reaction (signs may include difficulty in breathing or swallowing with or without swelling of the face, lips, tongue and/or throat)

Pregnancy
BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS should be used with caution in pregnant women only if advised by the doctor. If you use BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS while pregnant, there may be a small risk of cleft palate or retarded growth in the baby. Consult with your doctor before using BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS.
Breastfeeding
BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS should be used with caution in breastfeeding women only if advised by the doctor. Consult with your doctor before using BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS.
Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or use machinery if you feel a blurring of vision or light-headedness after using BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS.
Allergy
Do not take BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS if you are allergic to Betamethasone or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Others
BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS is not recommended for use if you have:
- perforated eardrum
- eye infection producing pus and is sticky
- ulcers in the eye(shingles)
- glaucoma (increased pressure within the eye)
Before using BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS, inform your doctor if you have:

Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before using BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS, inform your doctor if you are taking, have taken or might take any other medicine, including prescription, non-prescription or any herbal medicine including:
- medicines used to manage HIV (Ex. ritonavir, cobicistat)
Overdosage
If you or anyone else accidentally ingests or uses too much of BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.

If you have used BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPSfor a long time of 6-8 weeks, it is important to stop using it gradually to avoid the inflammation from coming back. If there is no improvement in your symptoms after 7 days, stop using BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS and see your doctor again.
Do I need to undergo any tests while using BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS?
Your doctor might want you to undergo some tests if you have been using corticosteroids previously as well. If you use BETAMETH EYE/EAR DROPS for eyes, your doctor might want you to get checked for certain conditions such as infections, cataracts and glaucoma (increased pressure within the eye).
