Introduction About BENZOFEN GEL
BENZOFEN GEL is a combination of Benzocaine and Diclofenac which belongs to the group of medicines called Local Anesthetics and Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID’s) respectively. It is used to provide relief from pain caused due to oral ulcers occurring in the gums, lips, inner cheeks, or roof of the mouth. They can be triggered by factors like minor injuries, hormonal changes, and emotional stress.
BENZOFEN GEL is not recommended for use in patients with a history of methemoglobinemia (very low oxygen levels in body tissue).
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before applying BENZOFEN GEL. This medicine is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below 12 years of age.
Stop applying BENZOFEN GEL and contact your doctor immediately if you experience burning or stinging sensation, itching, redness, or swelling along with fever, headache, breathlessness, nausea, and vomiting.

How BENZOFEN GEL Works
BENZOFEN GEL is a combination of Benzocaine and Diclofenac where benzocaine manages the transmission of pain signals along nerve fibers and at nerve endings by blocking the influx of sodium ions. Diclofenac works by suppressing the production of chemical messengers that cause pain and swelling. These actions together help to provide relief from pain caused due to ulcers present in the mouth.
How to use BENZOFEN GEL
Apply BENZOFEN GEL as advised by your physician. It is for oral use only. Avoid taking hot drinks while using BENZOFEN GEL. Your doctor will decide the right dose and duration depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of BENZOFEN GEL
Rare
Stop applying BENZOFEN GEL and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- signs of allergic reaction (burning, stinging, itching, redness, rash and/or swelling)
- skin irritation
- signs of methemoglobinemia (headache, shortness of breath, nausea, rapid heart rate, fatigue, lethargy, and confusion)
- severe symptoms along with fever, headache, breathlessness, nausea, and vomiting

Do not apply BENZOFEN GEL if you are allergic to Benzocaine or Diclofenac.

- have methemoglobinemia

Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before applying BENZOFEN GEL inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- medicines used to manage bacterial infections (Ex. sulfacetamide, sulfamethoxazole and sulfisoxazole)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally applies too much of BENZOFEN GEL, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
