Introduction About BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET
BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET is a combination of Benidipine and Metoprolol which belongs to the group of medicines called Antihypertensives. It is used in the management of hypertension, a condition in which the force of the blood against the artery walls is too high for a long-term resulting in blurry or double vision, light-headedness, fainting, fatigue, headache, palpitations, nosebleeds, shortness of breath and nausea or vomiting. It may eventually cause health problems such as heart disease.
Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET as it may reduce your blood pressure. BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET is not recommended in patients having severe asthma or severe attack of wheezing and non-cancerous tumour (phaeochromocytoma) near kidneys, serious heart or blood vessel diseases and decreased blood pressure.
BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET should be used with caution among patients having liver dysfunction or liver disease. This medicine is also not recommended for use among pregnant, breast-feeding women, children and adolescents (under 18 years of age). It should be cautiously used among elderly people. Consult your doctor before taking it.
The most common side effects of taking BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET are headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach pain. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects worsen.

How BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET Works
BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET helps to reduce high blood pressure, where benidipine works by relaxing the blood vessels supplying the heart to improve the blood flow by reducing the influx of calcium into cells and metoprolol works by reducing the force of contraction of the heart muscles by blocking the effects of certain hormones called adrenaline and making the heart to beat more easily thus it lowers the blood pressure. These actions together effectively reduce the high blood pressure.
How to use BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET
Take BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Do not stop taking BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET unless your doctor advice you to stop.

Rare
Stop taking BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- signs of liver problems (generalized tiredness, weakness, yellowish discolouration of skin and eyes and loss of appetite)
How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea or vomiting:
Take this medicine with or soon after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.
Constipation:
Eat plenty of fibre-containing foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, cereals and drink lots of water. Exercise more regularly. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.
Diarrhoea:
Drink lot of fluids such as normal water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own to manage diarrhoea without seeking the opinion of your doctor.
Stomach pain:
Try to rest and relax. Eat slowly and try to have smaller and more frequent meals. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.
Headache
Use a cold pack or hot pads to reduce the pressure on your head. Reduce looking into bright light and try to get adequate sleep. Consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
Skin rash:
Avoid bathing in hot water because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use protective clothing when going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin. Consult your doctor if the symptom worsens.
Warning & Precautions

Pregnancy
BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women or women planning to get pregnant. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET.

Breastfeeding
BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET.

Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy or light-headedness, sleepy or if you have any problems with your eyes while taking BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET.

Alcohol
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET, as it could aggravate your existing condition.

Kidney
BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients having non-cancerous tumour (phaeochromocytoma) near kidneys. Consult your doctor before taking BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET.

Liver
GBNKEYWORD] should be taken with caution in patients with severe liver disease or impaired liver function. Consult your doctor before taking BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET.

Allergy
Do not take BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET if you are allergic to benidipine, metoprolol or any other beta-blockers such as acebutolol and atenolol.

Lungs
BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients having severe asthma or severe attack of wheezing. It should be used with caution among patients having asthma, bronchitis (inflammation of bronchi) or any lung disorders. Consult your doctor before taking BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET.

Heart Disease
BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients having serious heart or blood vessel disorders and decreased blood pressure. BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients having heart diseases such as cardiogenic shock (heart cannot pump blood suddenly), slow heart rate or any problems with the circulation and if you are suffering from a rare form of angina (chest pain) called prinzmetal's angina. Consult your doctor before taking BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET.
Others
BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:
- metabolic acidosis (condition in which your blood become acidic than normal)
Before taking BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- require any operations which needs anaesthesia
- have psoriasis (skin disease)
- have diabetes (increased blood sugar levels)
- had severe allergic reactions
Use in paediatrics:
BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (under 18 years of age). Consult your child’s doctor for advice.
Use in geriatrics:
BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET.
Interactions
A. Drug - Drug interactions:
Before taking BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- medicines used to reduce blood pressure (Ex atenolol, betaxolol, prazosin and calcium channel blockers such as verapamil or diltiazem)
- medicines used to manage heart diseases (Ex. digoxin, nitrates such as nitroglycerin, and anti-arrhythmic medicines such as amiodarone, flecainide)
- cimetidine (medicine used to manage stomach acidity and ulcers)
- ergotamine (medicine used to manage migraine)
- medicines used to manage depression and other mental illness (Ex. citalopram, paroxetine and lorazepam)
- medicines used to manage HIV infection (Ex. indinavir, ritonavir)
- medicines used to manage allergic conditions such as common cold or other allergies (Ex. cetirizine, fexofenadine)
- medicine used to manage malaria (Ex. mefloquine)
- medicines used to manage fungal infections (Ex. fluconazole, itraconazole)
- rifampicin (medicine used to manage tuberculosis)
- medicines used to manage diabetes (Ex. glimepiride, insulin)
- medicines used to manage pain and inflammation (Ex. ibuprofen, diclofenac)
- lidocaine (medicine used as a local anaesthetic agent)
B. Drug - Food interaction:
Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET as it may cause severe decrease in blood pressure.
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.

Blood pressure medicines will be usually taken for lifetime to manage complications due to high blood pressure. Your doctor may change management with other hypertension drug, if you do not attain effective therapeutic outcome with BENIDIN M 4/50MG TABLET.
