Introduction About AXEPTA 25MG TABLET
AXEPTA 25MG TABLET contains Atomoxetine which belongs to the group of medicines called Psychostimulants. It is used to manage Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in adults, adolescents and in children (aged above 6 years).
ADHD is a mental disorder in which the affected patient remains impulsive, less attentive and/or hyperactive. It is predominant in children and in young adults and is often characterised by troublesome symptoms that can affect their daily life (such as lack of focus or concentration, aggressive behaviour, hyperactivity, forgetfulness, fidgety, daydreaming and restlessness)
AXEPTA 25MG TABLET is used along with counselling and behavioural therapy to achieve better results. It may take few weeks for AXEPTA 25MG TABLET to improve your symptoms. Therefore, take this medicine for the stipulated duration recommended by your doctor to achieve better results.
Before taking AXEPTA 25MG TABLET inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney or heart problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have glaucoma, high or low blood pressure, stroke, any problems in blood circulation, fits or any other mood disorders (such as mania, mood swings, aggression, hallucinations) as a precaution.
AXEPTA 25MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant or breastfeeding women unless considered necessary by the physician. The most common side effects of taking AXEPTA 25MG TABLET are headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, sleepiness, high blood pressure, tiredness, weight loss and difficulty in reaching orgasm. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects trouble you.
You must also inform your doctor if you feel extremely depressed with suicidal thoughts after taking AXEPTA 25MG TABLET.

AXEPTA 25MG TABLET effectively controls the symptoms of ADHD, where atomoxetine acts by increasing the amount of certain chemicals (such as noradrenaline) within the brain that controls impulsiveness and hyperactivity. It can also improve attention span and reduces the signs of ADHD in the affected patients.
How to use AXEPTA 25MG TABLET
Take AXEPTA 25MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not cursh or chew the medicine. AXEPTA 25MG TABLET can be taken with or without food.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.
Do not stop taking AXEPTA 25MG TABLET without consulting your doctor as it may make your symptoms re-appear once again.

- unable to attain orgasm
- changes in taste
- feeling shaky (tremors)
- tingling or numbness of hands and feet
- flushing of skin
- unable to pass urine, increased frequency of urination
- groin pain in men
- menstrual cramps
Uncommon
- feeling faint
- migraine headache
- blurred vision
- Raynaud’s disease (Cold and numb hands and feet)
- muscle spasms
- an urge to pass urine
- irregular periods, ejaculation failure
Rare
- prolonged and painful erections
Stop taking AXEPTA 25MG TABLET and consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- thoughts of committing suicide or killing/harming yourself
- fits (seizures)
- fast or irregular heartbeat
- feeling angry or unfriendly, mood swings, hallucinations
- signs of allergic reactions (such as skin rash, swelling of the hands, face, tongue, neck or throat, fast heart rate, difficulty in breathing)
- signs of liver damage (such as stomach pain or tenderness on the right side, dark urine, yellowing of skin and whites of the eye, nausea, severe tiredness, itching, flu-like symptoms)
How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea or vomiting:
Take this medicine with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil-rich or spicy food. Contact your doctor if the nausea worsens.
Constipation:
Eat plenty of fibre-rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals and drink plenty of water. Exercise regularly. Contact your doctor if constipation persists.
Dizziness:
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating heavy tools or machinery while you feel dizzy. Avoid the consumption of alcohol as it could aggravate your dizziness. Contact your doctor if the dizziness worsens.
Skin redness and itching:
Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate the skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and protective clothing while going outdoors and use unscented moisturizers to soothe and hydrate your skin. Contact your doctor if the itching persists.
Headache:
Rest and relax. Drink plenty of water and electrolytes. Apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if needed. Do not consume alcohol. Contact your doctor if your headache did not improve.
Warning & Precautions

Pregnancy
It is not known whether AXEPTA 25MG TABLET can affect the growth of an unborn baby or not. Therefore, it is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless considered necessary by the physician.

Breastfeeding
It is not known whether AXEPTA 25MG TABLET can pass through breast milk or not. Therefore, it is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless considered necessary by the physician.

Driving and Using Machines
AXEPTA 25MG TABLET may make you feel dizzy, tired and sleepy. Therefore, do not drive or operate any heavy tools or machines if your ability is affected by AXEPTA 25MG TABLET.

Alcohol
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking AXEPTA 25MG TABLET as it may increase the risk of side effects.

Kidney
AXEPTA 25MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Liver
AXEPTA 25MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Allergy
Do not take AXEPTA 25MG TABLET if you are allergic to Atomoxetine.

Heart Disease
AXEPTA 25MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patient with serious heart problems. It should be used with caution in patients with other heart problems (such as heart defects or irregular or fast heartbeat). Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
Others
AXEPTA 25MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you:
- have narrow angle glaucoma
- have stroke or any condition that affects blood vessels in brain (such as aneurysm, narrow or blocked blood vessels)
- have pheochromocytoma (tumour of the adrenal glands)
Before taking AXEPTA 25MG TABLET inform your doctor if you:
- have thoughts of suicide or harming/killing yourself
- have high blood pressure or low blood pressure
- have a history of stroke
- have hallucinations (seeing or believing things that aren’t true) or any other psychotic problems
- have mania (a mood disorder that causes high levels of excitement)
- feel angry, unfriendly or unhappy
- have mood swings
- have or ever had fits (or seizures) in the past
- have uncontrollable twitching of body parts
- constantly repeat abnormal sounds or words (Tic disorder)
Use in paediatrics:
AXEPTA 25MG TABLET can be used in children and adolescents (aged above 6 years) if prescribed by the physician. It is not recommended for use in children aged below 6 years due to lack of safety data. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
Use in geriatrics:
The safety and effectiveness of AXEPTA 25MG TABLET have not been established in elderly patients. Therefore, take AXEPTA 25MG TABLET only if advised by your physician.
Interactions
Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking AXEPTA 25MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:
- other medicines used to manage depression (Ex. phenelzine, iproniazid, isocarboxazid, nialamide, tranylcypromine, moclobemide, venlafaxine, mirtazapine, fluoxetine, paroxetine, amitriptyline, desipramine, imipramine etc.)
- medicines used to manage high blood pressure (Ex. dopamine, dobutamine)
- salbutamol, albuterol (medicines used to manage asthma)
- midazolam (a medicine used to manage anxiety)
- medicines used to manage psychiatric disorders (Ex. haloperidol, chlorpromazine, chlorprothixene)
- medicines used to manage irregular heartbeat (Ex. quinidine, digoxin, amiodarone)
- terbinafine (a medicine used to manage fungal infections)
- medicine used to manage malaria (Ex. primaquine, quinine)
- erythromycin, moxifloxacin (medicines used to manage bacterial infection)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally took more AXEPTA 25MG TABLET than the prescribed dose, contact your doctor or go to the nearest hospital straight away. Symptoms of overdosage might include gastrointestinal side effects (such as nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort), dizziness, tiredness, sleepiness, tremor or abnormal behaviour.
