    Introduction About AWIL INJECTION

    AWIL INJECTION contains Pheniramine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antihistamines. It is used in the management of allergic conditions (such as hay fever, angioneurotic oedema, drug rashes, serum sickness, allergic conjunctivitis, food allergy), conditions of the respiratory tract which involves increased secretions (vasomotor rhinitis, acute rhinitis).         

    It is also used to manage itching skin conditions (such as neurodermatitis, lichen planus, eczema, acute and chronic urticaria, pruritus in jaundice and diabetes, pruritis of the anus or genitals, radiation sickness). It is also used to manage motion sickness and nausea, vomiting and vertigo due to Meniere’s disease (diseases of the inner ear) and other disturbances. 

    AWIL INJECTION should be used with caution in patients having asthma, severe liver or heart diseases, narrow angle glaucoma (increased pressure within the eye) or men with enlarged prostate.  

    AWIL INJECTION should be used with caution in pregnant and breast-feeding women only if clearly advised by the doctor. AWIL INJECTION is not recommended for use in premature infants and new-born babies.    

    The most common side effect of receiving AWIL INJECTION is sedation (sleepiness). Inform your doctor if the symptom worsens or bothers you.      

    Uses Of AWIL INJECTION

    Manage:

    • allergic conditions (such as hay fever, angioneurotic oedema, drug rashes, serum sickness, allergic conjunctivitis, food allergy)
    • conditions of the respiratory tract which involves increased secretions (vasomotor rhinitis, acute rhinitis)
    • itching skin conditions (such as neurodermatitis, lichen planus, eczema, acute and chronic urticaria, pruritus in jaundice and diabetes, pruritis of the anus or genitals, radiation sickness)
    • motion sickness, nausea, vomiting and vertigo due to Meniere’s disease (diseases of the inner ear) and other disturbances

    How AWIL INJECTION Works

    AWIL INJECTION acts on certain receptors called H1 receptors and inhibits the action of a chemical called histamine. This inhibition reduces itching, allergic reactions and reduces the dilation of the vessels leading to less redness and oedema (swelling).       

    How to use AWIL INJECTION

    AWIL INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as slow intravenous injection or into a muscle (intramuscularly). To infants and children up to 12 years of age, the medicine will be given intramuscularly. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and general health condition.

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Drowsiness:

    Try maintaining consistent sleep schedule. Move slowly and carefully to manage the risk of falling down. Inform your doctor for advice if the symptom gets worse.

    Pregnancy

    AWIL INJECTION should be used with caution in pregnant women only if clearly advised by the doctor. Consult your doctor before receiving it. 

    Breastfeeding

    AWIL INJECTION should be used with caution in breast-feeding women only if clearly advised by the doctor. Consult your doctor before receiving it.   

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or use machines if you feel drowsy after receiving AWIL INJECTION.

    Alcohol

    Avoid consumption of alcohol while receiving AWIL INJECTION as it may increase the adverse central nervous system effects of this medicine.         

    Liver

    AWIL INJECTION should be used with caution in patients having severe hepatic disease and your doctor may adjust the dose in such patients. Consult your doctor before receiving it.

    Allergy

    Before receiving AWIL INJECTION, tell your doctor if you are allergic to Pheniramine or any other ingredients of this medicine.     

    Lungs

    AWIL INJECTION should be used with caution in patients having lung diseases such as asthma. Consult your doctor before receiving it.

    Heart Disease

    AWIL INJECTION should be used with caution in patients having severe cardiovascular disease. Consult your doctor before receiving it.

    Others

    Before receiving AWIL INJECTION inform your doctor if you have:          

    • narrow angle glaucoma (increased pressure within the eye)
    • enlarged prostate   

    Use in paediatrics:

    AWIL INJECTION is not recommended for use in premature infants and new-born babies. Your child’s doctor may administer the medicine either intravenously or intramuscularly depending upon child’s age. Consult your child’s doctor for advice before administration of AWIL INJECTION.  

    Interactions

    A. Drug–Drug Interactions:

    Before receiving AWIL INJECTION inform your doctor if you have received or taking any of the following medicines:   

    • monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) such as isocarboxazid, phenelzine (used to manage depression)
    • zolpidem, triazolam, alprazolam, diazepam (used to manage sleep disturbances and anxiety)
    • atropine (used to manage low heart rate and reduce bronchial secretions)
    • other anticholinergic drugs (used to manage nausea and vomiting due to motion sickness (Ex. scopolamine) and parkinson’s disease (Ex. benztropine))

    Overdosage:

    AWIL INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor if you experience any unusual symptoms such as agitation and convulsions especially in children and hallucinations, restlessness, disorientation in adults.

    Is AWIL INJECTION safe for use in asthmatic patients?  

    AWIL INJECTION should be used with caution in patients having lung diseases such as asthma. Since AWIL INJECTION is an antihistamine which means it dry up the secretions in the upper and lower respiratory tract which may cause difficulty in breathing. Consult with your doctor for advice before receiving AWIL INJECTION.

    Can AWIL INJECTION be used in pregnant women?

    AWIL INJECTION should be used with caution in pregnant women only if clearly advised by the doctor. Consult your doctor before receiving AWIL INJECTION if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant.  

    Is AWIL INJECTION safe to use in patients with liver disease?

    AWIL INJECTION should be used with caution in patients having severe hepatic disease and your doctor may adjust the dose in such patients. Your doctor may monitor your liver function test during management with this medicine to manage the risk of any unusual effects. Consult your doctor for advice before receiving AWIL INJECTION.

    Can AWIL INJECTION impair my ability to drive?  

    The most common side effect of AWIL INJECTION is sedation (drowsiness), which means it can make you sleepy. Do not drive or use machines if you feel drowsy after receiving AWIL INJECTION. You can continue with the activities once you feel normal again.
