Introduction About AVIL 25MG TABLET
AVIL 25MG TABLET contains Pheniramine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antihistamines. It is used in the management of allergic conditions (such as hay fever, angioneurotic oedema, drug rashes, serum sickness, allergic conjunctivitis, food allergy), conditions of the respiratory tract which involves increased secretions (vasomotor rhinitis, acute rhinitis).
It is also used to manage itching skin conditions (such as neurodermatitis, lichen planus, eczema, acute and chronic urticaria, pruritus in jaundice and diabetes, pruritis of the anus or genitals, radiation sickness). It is also used to manage motion sickness and nausea, vomiting and vertigo due to Meniere’s disease (diseases of the inner ear) and other disturbances.
AVIL 25MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients having asthma, bronchitis, severe liver or heart diseases, narrow angle glaucoma (increased pressure within the eye), intolerant to certain sugars such as lactose or if you have any planned surgery to undergo.
AVIL 25MG TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant and breast-feeding women only if clearly advised by the doctor. AVIL 25MG TABLET should not be used in children (below 5 years of age) including new-borns and premature babies.
The most common side effect of taking AVIL 25MG TABLET is sedation (sleepiness). Ask for your doctor’s advice if the symptom worsens or bothers you.
Uses Of AVIL 25MG TABLET
Manage:
- allergic conditions (such as hay fever, angioneurotic oedema, drug rashes, serum sickness, allergic conjunctivitis, food allergy)
- conditions of the respiratory tract which involves increased secretions (vasomotor rhinitis, acute rhinitis)
- itching skin conditions (such as neurodermatitis, lichen planus, eczema, acute and chronic urticaria, pruritus in jaundice and diabetes, pruritis of the anus or genitals, radiation sickness)

How AVIL 25MG TABLET Works
AVIL 25MG TABLET acts on certain receptors called H1 receptors and inhibits the action of a chemical called histamine. This inhibition reduces itching, allergic reactions and reduces the dilation of the vessels leading to less redness and oedema (swelling).
How to use AVIL 25MG TABLET
Take AVIL 25MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Do not take the medicine on empty stomach. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of the medicine for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of AVIL 25MG TABLET
Common
- sedation (drowsiness)
Rare
Stop taking AVIL 25MG TABLET and inform your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- swelling of the face, lips, mouth or throat, which may cause difficulty in breathing or swallowing
- hives
- fainting, headache
- yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
- changes in your usual behaviour or mood
- severe sedation, confusion or restlessness
- waves of sudden severe stomach pain
- hallucinations (seeing and hearing things that aren’t there), vision problems
- irregular heartbeat
- frequent infections such as fever, severe chills, sore throat or mouth ulcers
How To Manage Side Effects
Drowsiness:
Try maintaining consistent sleep schedule. Move slowly and carefully to manage the risk of falling down, also avoid doing activities which requires mental concentration until you fell normal. Consult your doctor for advice if the symptom gets worse.

Pregnancy
AVIL 25MG TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant women only if clearly advised by the doctor. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Breastfeeding
AVIL 25MG TABLET should be used with caution in breast-feeding women only if clearly advised by the doctor. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or use machines if you feel drowsy after taking AVIL 25MG TABLET.

Alcohol
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking AVIL 25MG TABLET as it may increase the adverse central nervous system effects of this medicine.

Liver
AVIL 25MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients having severe hepatic disease and your doctor may adjust the dose in such patients. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Allergy
Do not take AVIL 25MG TABLET if you are allergic to Pheniramine or any other ingredients of this medicine.

Lungs
AVIL 25MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients having lung diseases such as asthma, bronchitis. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Heart Disease
AVIL 25MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients having severe cardiovascular disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Others
Before taking AVIL 25MG TABLET inform your doctor if you have:
- narrow angle glaucoma (increased pressure within the eye)
- enlarged prostate
- any scheduled surgery
- intolerant to certain sugars such as lactose
Use in paediatrics:
AVIL 25MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children (below 5 years of age) and if your baby is new-born or born prematurely. Consult your child’s doctor for advice.
Interactions
A. Drug–Drug Interactions:
Before taking AVIL 25MG TABLET inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) such as isocarboxazid, phenelzine (used to manage depression)
- zolpidem, triazolam, alprazolam, diazepam (used to manage sleep disturbances and anxiety)
- atropine (used to manage low heart rate and reduce bronchial secretions)
- other anticholinergic drugs (used to manage nausea and vomiting due to motion sickness (Ex. scopolamine) and parkinson’s disease (Ex. benztropine))
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of AVIL 25MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Overdosage symptoms of AVIL 25MG TABLET are agitation and convulsions especially in children and hallucinations, restlessness, disorientation in adults.
