Introduction About ASMITA TABLET
ASMITA TABLET contains Drospirenone and Estradiol which belongs to the group of medicines called Hormonal contraceptives. It is used as an oral contraceptive in women. Oral contraceptives are a type of contraception that is effective in managing pregnancy when taken consistently every day which generally contains hormones that regulate menstruation, lowers the risk of ovarian and uterine cancers, improve acne, and manage endometriosis (uterine overgrowth).
Avoid taking ASMITA TABLET, if you have blood clots, pulmonary embolism, uncontrolled High blood pressure, breast cancer, a heart attack or stroke, severe liver disease, a liver tumour, and/or kidney failureBefore taking ASMITA TABLET, inform your doctor if you have diabetes, depression, ulcerative colitis, sickle cell anaemia, varicose veins, fits, or have just given birth.
ASMITA TABLET is not recommended to be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and it is also not recommended for use in children and adolescents whose periods have not started. The most common side effects of taking ASMITA TABLET are menstrual problems, breast pain and tenderness, headache, migraine, nausea, and stomach pain and discomfort. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen or bother you.

How ASMITA TABLET Works
ASMITA TABLET helps to manage pregnancy, where Drospirenone and Estradiol work together and suppress the release of certain hormones (Follicle Stimulating Hormone and Luteinizing Hormone), which manage ovulation (the release of the egg from the ovary). It also causes changes in cervical mucus, hinders sperm movement, and lowers the chance of embryo implantation, managing pregnancy.
How to use ASMITA TABLET
Take ASMITA TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of ASMITA TABLET for you depending on your age and health condition.
Side Effects Of ASMITA TABLET
Common

Stop taking ASMITA TABLET and inform your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:
- signs of a severe allergic reaction (swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat)
- signs of breast cancer (dimpling of the skin, changes in the nipple, lumps that can be seen or felt)
- signs of cervical cancer (vaginal discharge smelling and/or containing blood, unusual vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain, painful sex)
- signs of liver problems (severe pain in the upper abdomen, yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), inflammation of the liver, itching in the whole body)
- signs of a blood clot in a leg (swelling of one leg or along a vein in the leg or foot especially accompanied by pain or tenderness which may be felt only when standing or walking, increased warmth in the affected leg, change in colour of the skin on the leg i.e., turning pale, blue or red)
- signs of a blood clot in the lungs (sudden unexplained breathlessness, rapid breathing, sudden cough without an obvious cause, coughing blood, sharp chest pain increasing with deep breathing, severe dizziness or lightheadedness, rapid or irregular heartbeat, severe pain in stomach)
- signs of a blood clot in the eye (immediate loss of vision, painless blurring of vision progressing to loss of vision)
- signs of heart attack (chest pain, discomfort, pressure, heaviness, the sensation of squeezing or fullness in the chest, arm or below the breastbone, fullness, indigestion, feeling of choking, upper body discomfort that radiates to the back, throat, jaw, arm and stomach, sweating, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, shortness of breath, extreme weakness, anxiety, rapid or irregular heartbeats)
- signs of stroke (sudden weakness or numbness of the face, arm or leg, especially involving one side of the body, sudden confusion, sudden trouble walking, dizziness, trouble speaking or understanding, sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes, loss of balance or coordination, sudden, severe or prolonged headache with no known cause, loss of consciousness or fainting with or without seizure)
- signs of blood clots blocking other blood vessels (swelling and slight blue discolouration of an extremity, severe pain in your stomach)
How To Manage Side Effects
Diarrhea
Drink a lot of fluids, such as water, squash, or fruit juice, to keep yourself hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own for managing diarrhoea without consulting your doctor.
Headache
Rest as much as possible and avoid strenuous activities. Apply a pain-relieving balm to your forehead if necessary. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Nausea And Vomiting
In case of Nausea:
Take ASMITA TABLET with, or just after, meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
In case of Vomitng:
Drink clear or ice-cold drinks; eat light, bland foods; and avoid fried, oily, or sweet foods. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Breastfeeding

Kidney

Liver
ContraindicatedASMITA TABLET is not recommended for use in patients having severe liver disease, hepatitis C (a viral infection), or a tumour in the liver. Consult your doctor before taking ASMITA TABLET.
Allergy
ContraindicatedDo not take ASMITA TABLET if you are allergic to drospirenone or estradiol.
Lungs
ContraindicatedASMITA TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with blood clots in the lungs (pulmonary embolism). Consult your doctor before taking ASMITA TABLET.
Heart Disease
ContraindicatedASMITA TABLET is not recommended for use in patients having heart diseases such as thrombogenic valvular disease (clot in heart valve), uncontrolled high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, heart attack or stroke, or angina pectoris (chest pain). Consult your doctor before taking ASMITA TABLET.
Use In Pediatrics

Use In Geriatrics

Others
ASMITA TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:
- history of blood clots such as venous thromboembolism (clot in veins), arterial thromboembolism (clot in an artery)
- history of smoke
- headaches with migraine
- history of breast cancer
- history of progestin-sensitive cancer (genital cancer)
- unexplained bleeding from the vagina
- inherited or acquired hyper coagulopathies (bleeding disorder)
- planned to undergo a surgery
Before taking ASMITA TABLET inform your doctor if you have:
- diabetes
- depression
- Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis (chronic inflammatory bowel disease)
- systemic lupus erythematosus (a disease that affects the natural defence system in the body)
- sickle cell anaemia (an inherited disease of the red blood cells)
- varicose veins
- epilepsy
- hereditary angioedema (swelling underneath the skin)
- superficial thrombophlebitis (inflammation in the veins under the skin)
- just given birth
- fits
- disease that initially appeared during pregnancy or earlier use of sex hormones (Ex. hearing loss, porphyria, skin rash with blisters during pregnancy, nerve disease causing sudden movements of the body)
- ever had golden brown pigment patches (pregnancy patches), especially on the face
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug Interactions:
Before taking ASMITA TABLET inform your doctor, if you are taking any of these medicines:
- medicines used to manage epilepsy (Ex. primidone, phenytoin, carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine and barbiturates such as phenobarbital, and amobarbital)
- medicines used to manage tuberculosis (Ex. rifampicin)
- medicines used to manage HIV and hepatitis C virus infections (Ex. ritonavir, nevirapine, efavirenz)
- medicines used to manage fungal infections (Ex. griseofulvin, ketoconazole)
- medicines used to manage arthritis, and arthrosis (Ex. etoricoxib)
- medicines used to manage high blood pressure in the blood vessels in the lungs (Ex. bosentan)
- St. John’s wort (herbal medicine used to manage depression)
- medicines used to manage breathing problems (Ex. theophylline)
- medicines used to manage muscle pain and/or muscle cramps (Ex. tizanidine)
- medicined used to suppress the rejection of graft after an organ transplant (Ex. ciclosporin)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of ASMITA TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. The symptoms of overdosage of ASMITA TABLET are nausea, vomiting and withdrawal bleeding.
