    Introduction About ARTFIN 50MG TABLET

    ARTFIN 50MG TABLET contains Artesunate which belongs to the group of medicines called Antimalarials. It is used to manage uncomplicated malaria due to Plasmodium falciparum (a particular type of malaria parasite).

    Malaria is mosquito-borne acute febrile disease caused by a protozoan named Plasmodium falciparum. It is characterized by symptoms such as high fever, chills, sweating, headache, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, body aches, weakness, agitation, confusion, fainting on standing up and anaemia (reduced red blood cell count).

    ARTFIN 50MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with complicated malaria or malaria caused by other types of parasites such as Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium malariae or Plasmodium ovale and it is not recommended to manage malaria.

    Before taking ARTFIN 50MG TABLET inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems, special hereditary disorders of blood (called thalassaemia, sickle cell anaemia and G6PD deficiency).

    ARTFIN 50MG TABLET should be used in pregnant women only if advised by the doctor and breast feeding may be continued during therapy with ARTFIN 50MG TABLET. It should be used with caution in children, consult your child’s doctor for advice.

    This medicine may cause side effects such as slow heart rate and mild abdominal disturbances. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects worsens or if you experience any unusual effects.

    How ARTFIN 50MG TABLET Works

    ARTFIN 50MG TABLET helps in managing malaria where Artesunate works by transforming into a metabolite and binds with iron component of blood and forms free radicals which inhibit the synthesis of protein and nucleic acid in Plasmodium parasites and manages it from invading red blood cells, thus managing the malaria effectively.

    How to use ARTFIN 50MG TABLET

    Take ARTFIN 50MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. ARTFIN 50MG TABLET should not be taken with a high-fat meal. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Liver

    ARTFIN 50MG TABLET can be used in patients with liver problems with no dose adjustment. Consult your doctor for advice.

    Allergy

    Do not take ARTFIN 50MG TABLET if you are allergic to artesunate or any other ingredients of this medicine.

    Others

    ARTFIN 50MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

    • have complicated malaria
    • have malaria due to other types of parasites such as Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium malariae or Plasmodium ovale
    • have to manage malaria
    • have experienced rash or urticarial reaction (during management with this medicine in the past)

    Before taking ARTFIN 50MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

    • have special hereditary disorders of blood called thalassaemia, sickle cell anaemia and G6PD deficiency

    Use in Paediatrics:

    ARTFIN 50MG TABLET should be used with caution in children. Consult your child’s doctor for advice.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug Interactions:

    Before taking ARTFIN 50MG TABLET, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicines:

    • amodiaquine (used to manage malaria)
    • efavirenz (used to manage HIV-infection)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of ARTFIN 50MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.

    When to stop taking ARTFIN 50MG TABLET?

    Do not stop taking ARTFIN 50MG TABLET on your own without the advice of the doctor, even if you start feeling better. This is because if you stop taking it sooner, the infection may remain unmanaged which may relapse the malaria symptoms.
