    Introduction About APDROPS DX DROPS

    APDROPS DX DROPS is a combination of Dexamethasone and Moxifloxacin which belongs to the group of medicines called Corticosteroids and Antibiotics respectively. It is used to manage eye inflammation and infection.

    It also helps in reducing eye pain, redness, itching and/or burning or stinging sensation following eye surgery (such as cataract or corneal refractive surgery). It is typically used in conditions which involves the risk of both eye inflammation and infection such as during injuries or post-surgery.

    Use this medicine exactly as instructed by your physician. Misuse or overuse of this medicine may lead to unwanted side effects. If there is no improvement in your condition even after using this medicine for 7 days, consult your doctor for advice.

    If you wear soft contact lenses, remove the lens before applying APDROPS DX DROPS and wait for at least 15 minutes before reinsertion.

    Before using APDROPS DX DROPS inform your doctor if you have severe viral or fungal eye infections. You must also inform your doctor if you have glaucoma or any holes or ulcerations in the eyes as a precaution.

    Do not use APDROPS DX DROPS without consulting your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The most common side effects of using APDROPS DX DROPS are mild eye irritation or burning sensation, watery eyes, increased eye pressure, headache and taste changes. Consult your doctor if any of these side effect worsens.

    Uses Of APDROPS DX DROPS

    • Manage and manages eye infection and inflammation
    • Reduces eye pain, redness, itching or burning/stinging sensation following eye surgery

    How APDROPS DX DROPS Works

    APDROPS DX DROPS contains two medicines namely, Dexamethasone and Moxifloxacin. Dexamethasone is a steroid medication. It blocks the release of certain chemicals in the body (such as prostaglandins) that causes inflammation, redness and swelling. When applied topically on the eyes, it reduces eye redness, soreness, pain, itching and swelling.

    Moxifloxacin is an antibiotic. When applied topically on the eyes, it kills the susceptible bacteria that causes eye infection. Collectively, this medicine reduces inflammation and infection of the eyes.

    How to use APDROPS DX DROPS

    Use APDROPS DX DROPS as advised by your physician. It is for ophthalmic use only. Tilt your head slightly backwards and gently pull your lower eyelid. Instil few drops of this medicine into the eyes and close your eyes for 2 minutes. Repeat the same for the other eye if required. If you wear soft contact lenses, remove the lens before applying APDROPS DX DROPS and wait for at least 15 minutes before reinsertion.

    Wash your hands before and after application. Do not touch the tip of the container with your eyes, eyelids, areas around your eyes, outer surface of the ears or fingers, to avoid contamination. Leave a time gap of at least 5 minutes between this medicine and other eye medicines.

    Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and health condition. If there is no improvement in your condition even after using this medicine for 7 days, consult your doctor for advice.

    Side Effects Of APDROPS DX DROPS

    Common

    • eye pain, itching, irritation or discomfort
    • burning sensation in the eyes
    • excess watering of eyes
    • increased pressure within the eyes (after 2 weeks of use)

    Uncommon

    • dry eyes
    • eye redness
    • eye surface inflammation
    • abnormal eye sensation
    • dropping eyelids
    • headache
    • bad taste
    • cloudy lens, blurred vision

    Rare

    • vomiting
    • nasal discomfort
    • abnormal skin sensation
    • pain, throat irritation

    Stop using APDROPS DX DROPS and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • severe allergic reactions (such as skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, throat, tongue causing difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
    • severe skin reactions with blistering and peeling of skin
    • severe eye pain, redness, irritation and vision changes
    • pain or swelling of tendons

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Burning sensation in the eyes:

    Wash your eyes with plain cold water. Place an ice pack on your eye to ease the irritation. Avoid straining your eyes by looking at mobile phones, laptops or television. Wear protective eyeglasses while going outdoors.

    Headache:  

    Rest and relax. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on your forehead can be beneficial. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your headache. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.

    Blurred vision:

    Close your eyes and relax. Do not strain your eyes by looking at mobile phones, laptops, or television. Avoid driving or operating any heavy tools or machines while your vision is blur. Consult your doctor if you experience blurred vision for a prolonged period.

    Pregnancy

    APDROPS DX DROPS is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless considered necessary by the physician. Therefore, consult your doctor before using it.

    Breastfeeding

    APDROPS DX DROPS is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless considered necessary by the physician. Therefore, consult your doctor before using it.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or operate any heavy tools or machinery if you experience blurred vision or light-headedness after using APDROPS DX DROPS.

    Kidney

    APDROPS DX DROPS can be used in patients with kidney problems. However, consult your doctor before using it.

    Liver

    APDROPS DX DROPS can be used in patients with liver problems. However, consult your doctor before using it.

    Allergy

    Do not use APDROPS DX DROPS if you are allergic to Dexamethasone, Moxifloxacin or to any other quinolone antibiotics (such as ciprofloxacin).

    Others

    APDROPS DX DROPS is not recommended for use if you:

    • have severe viral or fungal infections
    • have an eye infection that produces sticky pus
    • have ulcers in the eyes
    • have hole or ulceration in the outer layer of the eye (cornea)
    • have glaucoma

    Before using APDROPS DX DROPS inform your doctor if you:

    • wear soft contact lenses

    Use in pediatrics:

    APDROPS DX DROPS is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) unless prescribed by a physician. Therefore, consult your doctor before administration.

    Use in geriatrics:

    APDROPS DX DROPS should be used with caution in elderly patients. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before using APDROPS DX DROPS, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:

    • medicines used to manage HIV infections such as ritonavir, cobicistat
    • medicines used to manage glaucoma (such as timolol, pindolol, acetazolamide, brinzolamide)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally used excessive amount of this medicine, rinse your eyes or ears with warm water. If still irritation persists, consult your doctor for advice. If you or anyone else accidentally swallowed this medicine, consult your doctor immediately.
