Introduction About AMPOXIN DRY SYRUP
AMPOXIN DRY SYRUP is a combination of Ampicillin and Cloxacillin which belongs to the group of medicines called Penicillin Antibiotics. It is used to manage respiratory tract infections like bronchopneumonia, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, post-operative wound infections, post-operative lung infections, puerperal fever and other infections such as septicaemia, bone infections like osteomyelitis, ear, nose and throat infections.
Before taking AMPOXIN DRY SYRUP inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease. There is no proper information on the use of AMPOXIN DRY SYRUP during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and therefore consult your doctor before taking.
AMPOXIN DRY SYRUP should be used with caution in neonates with jaundice and in children. Contact your doctor before taking.
AMPOXIN DRY SYRUP should be used with caution in elderly patients aged 65 years and above. Contact your doctor before taking.
The most common side effects of taking AMPOXIN DRY SYRUP are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin rash, urticaria, pruritus. Contact your doctor if any of the side effects worsen

It is used for:
- infected wounds or lung infections following surgery
- respiratory tract infections
- fever associated with bacterial infection
How AMPOXIN DRY SYRUP Works
AMPOXIN DRY SYRUP is a combination of Ampicillin and cloxacillin where ampicillin has a broad spectrum of bactericidal activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. It acts through the inhibition of cell wall mucopeptide biosynthesis during the stage of active multiplication. Cloxacillin manages bacteria from reproducing, which allows your body to fight only the existing bacteria.
How to use AMPOXIN DRY SYRUP
Take this medicine as advised by your physician. Dissolve the medicine in sterile water and shake well before use. Your doctor will give the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Check the label for directions before use.
Side Effects Of AMPOXIN DRY SYRUP
Common
- diarrhoea
- nausea
- skin rash, urticaria, and pruritus
Rare
Stop taking AMPOXIN DRY SYRUP and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea or Vomiting:
Take this medicine with, or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods.
Diarrhoea:
Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep you hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own for managing diarrhea. Contact your doctor if the symptom did not improve.
Skin rash:
Avoid hot showers because hot water can further irritate your skin. Do not scratch the affected area. Use protective clothing when going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin. Contact your doctor if the symptoms did not resolve.

Pregnancy

Breastfeeding

Driving and Using Machines
AMPOXIN DRY SYRUP has no adverse effects on the ability to drive or operate machinery.

Kidney
AMPOXIN DRY SYRUP should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Contact your doctor before taking.

Liver
AMPOXIN DRY SYRUP should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking.

Allergy
Do not take AMPOXIN DRY SYRUP if you are allergic to Ampicillin, Cloxacillin or to beta lactam antibiotics (Ex. penicillins, cephalosporins) or to other ingredients of this medicine.
Others
Before taking AMPOXIN DRY SYRUP, inform your doctor if you:
- have infectious mononucleosis or glandular fever
- have leukaemia
- are on low salt diet

Your doctor will give the right dose depends on your child’s age, body weight and disease condition. Contact your doctor before taking AMPOXIN DRY SYRUP.
Use in geriatrics:
AMPOXIN DRY SYRUP should be used with caution in elderly patients aged above 65 years. Contact your doctor before taking.
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Inform your physician, if you are taking,
- medicines which inhibit the bacteria growth (Ex. Bacteriostatic drugs such as chloramphenicol, erythromycin and tetracyclines)
- medicines used to manage gout (Ex. probenecid, allopurinol)
- sulphonamides (used to manage bacterial infections)
- acetylsalicylic acid (medicine used to manage blood clots)
- medicines used to manage pregnancy (Ex. oestrogen containing oral contraceptives)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally took too much of this medicine, consult your doctor immediately. Symptoms of overdose include gastrointestinal effects such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea.
