    Introduction About ACTIFED PLUS TABLET

    ACTIFED PLUS TABLET is a combination of Paracetamol, Pseudoephedrine and Triprolidine which belongs to the group of medicines called Analgesics and Antipyretics, Nasal decongestants and Antihistamines respectively. It is used to relieve runny nose, pain, fever, headache and sneezing.

    Avoid alcohol consumption while taking ACTIFED PLUS TABLET as it may lead to unwanted effects. ACTIFED PLUS TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with stomach or duodenal ulcer, glaucoma, bladder or prostate problems, severe high blood pressure and coronary artery disease.

    ACTIFED PLUS TABLET should be used with caution in patients with lung diseases such as emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma, liver or kidney disease, diabetes mellitus and hyperthyroidism.

    ACTIFED PLUS TABLET should be used in pregnant and breast-feeding women only if advised by the doctor. This medicine is not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age and it should be used with caution in elderly patients aged 65 years and above.

    The most common side effects of taking ACTIFED PLUS TABLET are nausea, vomiting, indigestion, constipation, stomach discomfort, diarrhea and headache. Consult your doctor if any of the side effect worsens.

    How ACTIFED PLUS TABLET Works

    ACTIFED PLUS TABLET helps to relive runny nose, pain, fever, headache and sneezing, where paracetamol is an analgesic and antipyretic which works to stop the pain messengers from getting through the brain and also acts in the brain to reduce fever. Thus, decreasing pain and fever. Pseudoephedrine is an nasal decongestant works by reducing congestion in the upper respiratory tract, including the nose, nasal passages and sinuses and making it easier to breathe and triprolidine is an antihistamine works by blocking the binding of histamine (responsible for allergic reactions such as nasal congestion, runny nose) to histamine H1 receptors, thus managing allergic reactions.

    How to use ACTIFED PLUS TABLET

    Take ACTIFED PLUS TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicines with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your physician will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of ACTIFED PLUS TABLET

    Common

    • nausea, vomiting
    • indigestion, stomach discomfort
    • constipation, diarrhea
    • headache, drowsiness or sleepiness
    • dizziness, tremors
    • difficulty sleeping
    • nervousness and irritability
    • excitability, restlessness
    • fear or anxiety
    • hallucinations, extreme happiness
    • twitching or jerking muscles
    • dry mouth, nose and throat
    • fast heart beat
    • hallucinations
    • rectal bleeding
    • nosebleed
    • fever, red skin and small bumps on the skin

    Rare

    Stop taking ACTIFED PLUS TABLET and contact your physician immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • symptoms of ischemic colitis such as sudden abdominal pain, rectal bleeding
    • signs and symptoms such as formation of small pustules occur, with or without fever, redness of skin
    • symptoms of allergic reaction such as skin rash, itchy, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body causing shortness of breath or wheezing
    • urine retention or pain when passing urine
    • fits

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Nausea, vomiting:

    Take this medicine with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if nausea and vomiting does not improve.

    Headache:

    Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes and apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if necessary. Do not consume alcohol. Consult your doctor if headache worsens.

    Diarrhoea:

    Drink lot of fluids such as water or fruit juices to keep yourself hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own for managing diarrhoea. Consult your doctor if diarrhoea does not improve.

    Constipation:

    Eat fibre rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals. Drink more water and exercise regularly. Consult your doctor if constipation does not improve.

    Stomach pain:

    Try to rest and relax. Eat small meals but take frequently. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. Consult your doctor if stomach pain worsens.

    Pregnancy

    ACTIFED PLUS TABLET should be used with caution during pregnancy unless considered clearly necessary. Contact your doctor before taking ACTIFED PLUS TABLET.

    Breastfeeding

    ACTIFED PLUS TABLET is not recommended for use in breast-feeding women unless considered clearly necessary. Contact your doctor before taking ACTIFED PLUS TABLET.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizziness or drowsiness after taking ACTIFED PLUS TABLET.

    Alcohol

    Avoid alcohol consumption while taking ACTIFED PLUS TABLET as it may increase sedative effects and increase the risk of liver side effects.

    Kidney

    ACTIFED PLUS TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking ACTIFED PLUS TABLET.

    Liver

    ACTIFED PLUS TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking ACTIFED PLUS TABLET.

    Allergy

    Do not take ACTIFED PLUS TABLET if you are allergic to Paracetamol, Pseudoephedrine and Triprolidine or to other ingredients of this medicine.

    Lungs

    ACTIFED PLUS TABLET should be used with caution in patients with lung diseases such as emphysema, chronic bronchitis or asthma). Contact your doctor before taking ACTIFED PLUS TABLET.

    Heart Disease

    ACTIFED PLUS TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with very high blood pressure, severe coronary artery disease. It is used with caution in patients with high blood pressure, heart disease and patients with poor blood flow in the blood vessels of the heart. Consult your doctor before taking ACTIFED PLUS TABLET.

    Others

    ACTIFED PLUS TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:

    • stomach or duodenal ulcer and other stomach problems
    • glaucoma
    • bladder and prostate problems

    Before taking ACTIFED PLUS TABLET, inform your doctor if you have:

    • hyperthyroidism
    • diabetes mellitus
    • fits

    Use in Paediatrics:

    ACTIFED PLUS TABLET is not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age. Consult your child’s doctor for advice.

    Use in Geriatrics:

    ACTIFED PLUS TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above) due to increased risk of side effects. Consult your doctor before taking ACTIFED PLUS TABLET.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before taking ACTIFED PLUS TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

    • amitriptyline, moclobemide (medicines used to manage depression)
    • phenylephrine (used to manage nasal congestion)
    • phentermine (used to supress appetite)
    • amphetamine (used to manage attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD))
    • methyldopa and β-blockers like propranolol (medicines used to manage high blood pressure and heart diseases)
    • urinary acidifiers Ex. potassium citrate (medicines used to manage urinary tract infections)
    • urinary alkalanizers Ex. sodium bicarbonate (medicines used to manage metabolic acidosis due to kidney disease)
    • warfarin (used to manage blood clots)
    • metoclopramide (used to manage nausea and vomiting)
    • propantheline (used to manage ulcers)
    • narcotic analgesics Ex. oxycodone, tramadol (medicines used to manage severe pain)
    • chloramphenicol (used to manage bacterial infections)
    • flucloxacillin (medicines used to manage skin infections)
    • probenecid (used to manage gout)
    • phenytoin (used to manage fits)
    • medicines used to help you sleep or relax (sedatives and hypnotics) Ex. alprazolam
    • cholestyramine (used to manage elevated cholesterol levels in blood)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of ACTIFED PLUS TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage are liver damage or acute renal tubular necrosis.
