    Description

The 3M Tegaderm CHG I.V. Securement Dressing is an all-in-one solution designed to cover and protect catheter sites and secure devices to the skin. It integrates an antimicrobial chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) gel pad with a transparent, breathable film dressing. This design is intended to reduce the risk of catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSI) and vascular catheter colonization by providing continuous antimicrobial activity for up to 7 days while allowing for constant site observation.

Integrated Antimicrobial Protection: Features a chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) gel pad that provides immediate and continuous antimicrobial protection for up to seven days. Transparent for Site Visibility: The clear film and gel pad allow for continuous monitoring of the catheter insertion site for early signs of infection without needing to remove the dressing. Secure Catheter Placement: A conforming keyhole notch, a large securement tape strip, and a reinforced stabilization border help to hold catheters firmly in place, minimizing movement. Breathable and Sterile Barrier: The breathable film provides a sterile barrier that protects the site from external contaminants, including microbes, while allowing for moisture vapor exchange. Designed for Consistent Application: The integrated design with a documentation tape strip simplifies the application process for healthcare providers.

Q: What is the purpose of the CHG gel pad in this dressing?

A: The integrated gel pad contains 2% Chlorhexidine Gluconate (CHG), an antiseptic that provides continuous antimicrobial and antifungal activity to protect the catheter site.

Q: Is the 3M Tegaderm CHG dressing waterproof?

A: Yes, the transparent film provides a waterproof barrier against external contaminants, including fluids, which allows the patient to shower.

Q: For which devices is this dressing intended?

A: This dressing is designed to cover, protect, and secure various percutaneous devices, including IV catheters, central venous catheters (CVCs), arterial catheters, and epidural catheters.

Q: How long can the dressing be worn?

A: The CHG gel pad provides antimicrobial protection for up to 7 days, but the dressing should be changed according to facility protocol or if it becomes soiled or is no longer adhering to the skin.

Q: Are there any contraindications for this dressing?

A: Yes, it should not be used on premature infants, infants younger than 2 months of age, or on individuals with a known hypersensitivity to chlorhexidine gluconate.

    Direction for Use/Dosage

Prepare the site according to your institution's protocol. Ensure the skin is completely dry before application to promote adhesion and prevent irritation. Peel the liner from the dressing to expose the adhesive surface. Center the CHG gel pad over the catheter insertion site. Do not stretch the dressing during application; simply drape it over the site. Apply firm pressure across the entire dressing, from the center towards the edges, to ensure it adheres well. Slowly remove the paper frame while smoothing down the outer edges of the dressing. Use the provided securement tape strip and documentation label as needed to further stabilize the catheter and record the date of the dressing change. For removal, gently peel the dressing back low and slow, supporting the skin, rather than pulling it upwards.
