    Introduction About ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP

    ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP contains Cefditoren which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to manage mild to moderate infections such as exacerbation of chronic bronchitis (increase in cough), pneumonia (infection of lung tissue), pharyngitis (sore throat)/tonsillitis (inflammation of tonsils), acute sinusitis (sinus infection), skin and soft tissue infection (Ex. muscle infection) in children of (2 months to 12 years of age).

    ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP is not recommended for use if you have carnitine deficiency or inborn errors of metabolism. ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease, colitis. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Inform your doctor before taking ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP if you are pregnant or breastfeeding women. ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP should be used with caution in children from 2 months to 12 years of age. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    The most common side effects of taking ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP are diarrhea, rash, urticaria. Contact your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen.

    Uses Of ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP

    To manage mild to moderate infections such as:

    • exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
    • pneumonia
    • pharyngitis /tonsillitis
    • acute sinusitis
    • skin and soft tissue infection

    How ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP Works

    ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP exerts its antibacterial action by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Thus, it kills bacteria and manages infections effectively.

    How to use ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP

    Take ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP as advised by your physician. Shake well before use. Add freshly boiled and cooled water up to the ring mark on the bottle & shake well. Add more water if necessary to adjust the volume up to the ring mark.

    The reconstituted suspension should be consumed within 7 days of preparation. Your physician will fix the correct dose and frequency for you based on your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP

    Common

    • diarrhea
    • rash, urticaria

    Rare

    Stop taking ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • severe allergic reactions (such as sudden wheezing, difficulty in breathing, swelling of the eyelids, face, lips, throat, tongue or limbs, rash or itching (especially affecting your whole body)
    • serious peeling or blistering of the skin
    • severe diarrhoea, possibly with blood or mucus
    • low blood sugar (glucose) level symptoms such as sweating, fast heartbeat, seizures and disturbances of consciousness

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Diarrhoea:

    Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep yourself hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own for managing diarrhoea. Contact your doctor if your diarrhoea did not improve.

    Skin rash:

    Avoid hot baths because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing while going outside. Use unscented moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the affected area. Contact your doctor if your rashes worsen.

    Inform your doctor before taking ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP if you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Breastfeeding

    Inform your doctor before taking ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP if you are breastfeeding woman. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Driving and Using Machines

    ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP does not affect your ability to drive or operate machines.

    Kidney

    ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Allergy

    Do not take ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP if you are allergic to cefditoren, other cephalosporins or to other ingredients of this medicine.

    Others

    ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP is not recommended for use if you:

    • have carnitine deficiency or inborn errors of metabolism

    Before taking ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP, inform your doctor if you:

    • have a history of allergic reactions to penicillins or other drugs
    • have a history of gastrointestinal disease, especially inflammation of the colon (colitis)
    • are undergoing any blood or urine tests

    Use in paediatrics:

    ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP should be used with caution in children from 2 months to 12 years of age. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before taking ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • medicines used to relieve indigestion and heartburn (aluminium and magnesium hydroxide, famotidine)
    • probenecid (medicine used to manage gout)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of ZOSTUM O DRY SYRUP, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
