What URSODIL SUSPENSION is used for?

It is used,

  • for the treatment of primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC)
  • to dissolve gallstones caused by excess cholesterol in the gall bladder
  • for the treatment of liver disease associated with a condition called cystic fibrosis in children aged 1 month to 18 years

Talk to your Doctor, if you:

  • are allergic to Ursodeoxycholic acid or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have gallstones that are visible on an x-ray (calcified)
  • have acute inflammation of the gall bladder or biliary tract
  • have a blockage of the common bile duct or cystic duct (obstruction of the biliary tract)
  • have frequent cramp-like upper abdominal pain (biliary colic)
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • Your doctor will give you the right dose based on body weight and the condition being treated

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • colestyramine, colestipol (to lower blood lipids)
  • antacids containing aluminum hydroxide or smectite (aluminum oxide)
  • ciprofloxacin and dapsone (antibiotics)
  • nitrendipine (used to treat high blood pressure)
  • ciclosporin (used to reduce the activity of the immune system)
  • rosuvastatin (used for high cholesterol)
  • clofibrate (used to lower high levels of cholesterol)
  • estrogen
  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
  • Shake the closed bottle well before use
  • The administration of URSODIL SUSPENSION is based on body weight and the condition being treated


  • If you or anyone else takes too much of this medicine, contact a doctor immediately

If you forget to take URSODIL SUSPENSION

  • Do not take more medicine the next time, but just continue the treatment with the prescribed dose

If you stop taking URSODIL SUSPENSION

  • Do not stop taking this medicine without advice from your doctor

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very Rare
  • diarrhoea
  • severe right-sided upper abdominal pain, severe worsening of liver scarring
  • hardening of gallstones
  • nettle rash (urticaria)
Additional Information
  • Keep this medicine out of reach of children
  • Store at a room temperature of 15-25°C
