REXIDIN M FORTE GEL is a combination of Chlorhexidine, Metronidazole and Lignocaine which belong to the groups of medicines called Antiseptic Antibacterial agents, Nitroimidazoles and Local Anesthetics, respectively. REXIDIN M FORTE GEL is used to treat halitosis, gingivitis, oral stomatitis, pain due to mouth ulcers and food burns. It is also used to prevent plaque growth on the teeth.
Halitosis is a condition that occurs due to trapped bacteria on the uneven microscopic surface of the tongue that produces odours, contributing to bad breath in an individual. Gingivitis is a form of gum disease that occurs due to poor hygiene and is generally characterised by symptoms such as swollen and receding gums.
Oral stomatitis is a condition characterised by painful swelling and sores inside the mouth that occur due to an infection, an allergic reaction or irritating foods. Mouth ulcers are small lesions that develop in your mouth or at the base of your gums, which make eating and drinking uncomfortable.
REXIDIN M FORTE GEL is not recommended for use in patients who are allergic to chlorhexidine or metronidazole. lignocaine, methyl hydroxybenzoate, propyl hydroxybenzoate or para-aminobenzoic acid. Before applying REXIDIN M FORTE GEL, inform your doctor if you have traumatised (injured) mucosa, sepsis (a life-threatening infection) in the application site, poor general health, severe liver disease and renal dysfunction and/or a partial or complete heart block.
REXIDIN M FORTE GEL should be used with caution during pregnancy and only if necessary, in breastfeeding women. REXIDIN M FORTE GEL is not recommended for use by children (below 12 years of age). The most common symptoms of applying REXIDIN M FORTE GEL are dry mouth, altered taste sensations (such as metallic taste), discoloured or coated tongue, nausea, vomiting and abdominal discomfort. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms get worse.
REXIDIN M FORTE GEL helps to treat mouth ulcers, halitosis, gingivitis and oral stomatitis and prevents plaque growth. Chlorhexidine heals ulcers by decreasing the number of bacteria in the mouth, leading to decreased swelling and redness of the gums, Metronidazole kills bacteria or other microorganisms by damaging their DNA and Lignocaine provides relief from painful mouth sores by forming a protective coating over the mouth sores and blocking their pain signals.
Always apply REXIDIN M FORTE GEL, as directed by your physician. It is for external use only. On the affected area, apply a thin layer of this medicine. Treated areas on the face need not be covered with a plaster or bandage. Do not apply REXIDIN M FORTE GEL to your face beyond 5 days. Avoid applying REXIDIN M FORTE GEL around your eyes, including your eyelids.
Stop applying REXIDIN M FORTE GEL and contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:
Dry mouth:
Try to drink plenty of cold water and sip on cold, unsweetened drinks and use lip balm if your lips are dry. Brush your teeth twice a day and use mouthwash. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
Nausea and vomiting:
Try to take REXIDIN M FORTE GEL with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
Diarrhoea:
Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to treat diarrhoea. Consult your doctor and inform them if the symptom gets worse.
REXIDIN M FORTE GEL should be used with caution during pregnancy only if it is necessary. Consult your doctor before applying the medicine.
REXIDIN M FORTE GEL should be used with caution in breastfeeding women only if it is necessary. Consult your doctor before applying for the medicine.
Do not drive or operate machines while applying REXIDIN M FORTE GEL since it may temporarily affect your ability to drive or operate machines.

Overdosage:
If you or anyone else applies too much of REXIDIN M FORTE GEL or accidentally swallows it, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are circumoral paraesthesia (burning, prickling or itching sensation), numbness of the tongue, light-headedness, hyperacusis (unusual tolerance to ordinary environmental sounds), ringing in the ears, visual disturbance, muscular tremors, generalized & grand mal convulsions (seizures), unconsciousness, hypoxia (low oxygen level), hypercarbia (increased carbon-di-oxide in the blood), apnoea (serious sleep disorder), severe low blood pressure, slow heart rate, irregular heartbeat, arrhythmia and cardiovascular collapse.
