What PERCIN is used for?

It is used to treat infections, caused by bacteria that are susceptible to prulifloxacin, in people with the following conditions:

  • lower urinary tract infections (simple cystitis)
  • lower urinary tract infections associated with other urinary medical problem (complicated cystitis)
  • sudden worsening of chronic bronchitis (acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis)
  • acute bacterial rhinosinusitis

Talk to your Doctor, if you:

  • are allergic to any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have ever had tendon problems
  • suffer from epilepsy
  • have a history of abnormal heart rhythm
  • have glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency
  • have liver or kidney problems
  • suffer from lactose intolerance as this medicine contains lactose
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • It may cause dizziness and confusion. If you experience any of these symptoms, do not drive or use any dangerous tools or machinery

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • cimetidine or antacids aluminum or magnesium (used to treat indigestion, heartburn or stomach ulcers)
  • medicines for iron or calcium
  • medicines for diabetes
  • amiodarone, quinidine, procainamide (used to control your heartbeat)
  • erythromycin, clarithromycin, azithromycin (used to treat infections)
  • amitriptyline, clomipramine, imipramine (used to treat depression)
  • probenecid (used to reduce uric acid in the blood)
  • fenbufen (used for pain relief in arthritis)
  • theophylline (used for asthma or breathing difficulties)
  • warfarin (used to prevent blood clotting)
  • nicardipine (used to treat angina (chest pains) or high blood pressure)
  • steroids: prednisolone (used for allergic conditions or inflammation)
  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
  • It should be swallowed whole with water and should be taken between meals on an empty stomach
  • You should drink plenty of water while you are taking PERCIN

If you take more PERCIN

  • If you accidentally take too much PERCIN contact your doctor at once or go to the nearest hospital casualty department. The hospital doctor may need to perform a procedure to empty your stomach

If you forget to take PERCIN

  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is time for your next dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose

If you stop taking PERCIN

  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor tells you to do so

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very Rare
  • sudden wheeziness, difficulty in breathing, swelling of eyelids, face or lips, rash or itching (especially affecting the whole body)
  • stevens johnson syndrome: severe skin rash that causes blistering of the skin and sometimes the mouth and tongue
  • a severe skin reaction to sunlight such as burning or peeling
  • signs of tendon inflammation such as swelling or pain in the affected limb, achilles tendon
  • muscle pain, muscle weakness or dark urine
  • severe watery diarrhoea which is black, tarry or has blood in it
  • low blood sugar which may make you feel shaky and irritable
  • numbness, loss of sensitivity to pain
  • skin reddening and flaking (dermatitis)
  • tiny crystals in your urine without any symptoms
  • stomach pain
  • diarrhoea, vomiting, inflammation of the stomach
  • headache, dizziness
  • itching or rash
  • loss of appetite
  • fever, hot flushes
  • taste disturbances
  • sleep disorders, confusion or sleepiness
  • impaired hearing
  • redness and irritation in the eyes
  • stomach pain, wind, bloating, indigestion or heartburn, abnormal stools
  • sore lips, tongue or mouth or fungal infection (thrush)
  • muscle spasms, muscle breakdown
  • dry, itchy skin (eczema), increased sensitivity to sunlight or red wheals on the skin (urticaria)
  • increases in liver enzymes which show up in blood tests
  • mouth ulcer
  • joint pains all over the body
  • increased albumin (protein) levels in your blood
  • increased calcium levels in your blood
  • increased numbers of white blood cells
