Introduction About PEGICOL PAEDIATRIC SACHET
Pegicol Paediatric Sachet is a laxative powder that is used to manage long-term (chronic) constipation and faecal impaction in children. Constipation refers to difficulty in passing stools and if it becomes severe it causes faecal impaction. This sachet contains Polyethylene Glycol 3350, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Bicarbonate and Potassium Chloride as the chief ingredients that aid in passing stools with comfort.
Polyethylene Glycol 3350 is an osmotic laxative. It works by drawing water into the lumen of the intestines, thereby increasing water retention in the bowel. As a result, the loose stool is produced and constipation is managed. This also results in the clean intestines required for various diagnostic purposes. Sodium Chloride, Sodium Bicarbonate and Potassium Chloride provide essential electrolytes to the body to avoid weakness.
Pegicol Paediatric Sachet is to be taken as advised by the doctor. It is for oral intake and is to be mixed in water before consumption. Do not take it directly. Avoid taking it if you have a blocked intestine, or perforated gut wall or are diagnosed with severe inflammatory conditions of the bowel such as Toxic Megacolon, Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease etc. It may cause serious allergic reactions causing difficulty in breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, along with skin rash, itching, stomach ache or rumbles. It may also cause bloating, nausea, vomiting, sore anus and diarrhoea. Consult a doctor if you experience any worsening or persistent side effects.
