    Introduction About PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE

    PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE contains Palonosetron which belongs to the group of medicines called Serotonin antagonists. It is used to control nausea and vomiting resulting from chemotherapy (management of cancer) in adults.

    PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with heart diseases or a family history of heart diseases such as QT prolongation (changes in a heartbeat), chronic constipation or blocked bowels and unmanageed electrolyte imbalances such as potassium and magnesium in the blood.

    PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in pregnancy unless clearly necessary as it is not known whether it may cause harm to the unborn baby. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE should be used with caution as it is not known whether it may pass through the breast milk. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Contact your doctor before taking it. The most common side effect of taking PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE is a headache. Contact your physician if the above side effects worsen.

    How PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE Works

    PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE blocks the action of serotonin, which induces nausea and vomiting (serotonin is a chemical that carries messages between nerve cells in the brain and throughout the body).

    How to use PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE

    Always take as directed by your physician. PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE usually will be taken orally as prescribed by your doctor 60 minutes prior to your routine chemotherapy. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE

    Common

    • headache

    Uncommon

    • difficulty in sleeping
    • breathlessness
    • swelling of the eyes
    • abnormal electrical impulses in the heart
    • constipation
    • nausea
    • increased levels of bilirubin in the blood
    • muscle ache

     

    Rare

    Stop taking PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • allergic reaction such as itchy, rashes, swelling of the lips, face, tongue or throat causing difficulty breathing or collapsing

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Headache:

    Take rest. Have a good amount of sleep. Have a balanced diet at regular intervals. Add more fluids to your diet. Drink plenty of water to replenish water stores.

    Nausea:

    Take the medicine, with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food. Contact your doctor if nausea worsens.

    Constipation:

    Eat plenty of fibre-rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals. Drink water and exercise regularly. Contact your doctor if constipation persists.

    Pregnancy

    PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in pregnancy unless clearly necessary as it is not known whether it may cause harm to the unborn baby. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Breastfeeding

    It is not known whether PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE passes through breast milk, hence consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

    Driving and Using Machines

    You may feel dizziness or tiredness after taking PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE. If this happens, avoid driving or using heavy machines.

    Allergy

    Do not take PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE if you are allergic to Palonosetron or to any ingredients of this medicine.

    Heart Disease

    PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with heart diseases or a family history of heart diseases such as QT prolongation (changes in a heartbeat). Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Others

    Before taking PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE tell your doctor if you have:

    • blocked bowels or chronic constipation
    • improper balance of minerals such as potassium and magnesium in the blood (unmanageed)

    PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in children. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug Interactions:

    Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • medicines used to manage depression and anxiety (such as fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline, fluvoxamine, citalopram, escitalopram, venlafaxine, duloxetine, moclobemide, mirtazapine)
    • medicines used in cardiac disorders (amiodarone, nicardipine, quinidine)
    • antibiotics (medicines used to manage bacterial infections such as moxifloxacin, erythromycin)
    • medicines used for serious mental disorders (haloperidol, chlorpromazine, quetiapine, thioridazine, lithium)
    • domperidone (used for managing nausea and vomiting)
    • fentanyl, tramadol (medicines used for severe pain)
    • intravenous methylene blue (medicines used to manage methemoglobinemia)

    B. Drug-Food Interactions:

    PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE contains lecithin which comes from soya. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to peanuts, soya or sugars.

    Overdosage:

    Contact your doctor immediately, if you think you have taken an extra dose of PALOZAC 0.5MG CAPSULE. Symptoms of overdosage include fits, laboured breathing and salivation.
