What OZURDEX 0.7MG is used for?

It is used in acute conditions in which oral steroid treatment is not possible, such as:

  • Shock (e.g. after an accident, after surgery or due to blood poisoning)
  • Swelling of the brain because of a brain tumour
  • Diseases of joints and soft tissues, such as rheumatoid arthritis
  • Allergic reactions

Talk to your Doctor if you:

  • are allergic or hypersensitive to Dexamethasone or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have an infection that affects the whole body
  • have ever had severe depression or manic depression (bipolar disorder)
  • have a cancer of the blood
  • have kidney, liver or heart  problems
  • have high blood pressure or heart disease
  • have diabetes or there is a family history of diabetes
  • have thinning of the bones (osteoporosis)
  • have had muscle weakness with this or other steroids in the past
  • have raised eye pressure (glaucoma)
  • have a history of glaucoma
  • have a stomach (peptic) ulcer
  • have epilepsy
  • have migraines
  • have tuberculosis (TB)
  • have herpes infection of the eye
  • If you are pregnant, or breastfeeding think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • Ask your doctor for advice before giving this medicine to your children
  • Do not drive or use machines if you experience any side effect which may lessen your ability to do so

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • medicines to treat heart and blood problems, high blood pressure
  • anticoagulants (used to prevent blood clots)
  • diuretics (used to treat heart problems)
  • rifampicin and rifabutin (used to treat infections)
  • phenytoin, carbamazepine, phenobarbitone and primidone (used to treat epilepsy)
  • aspirin or phenylbutazone (used to control pain or lower inflammation)
  • medicines used to treat diabetes, lower potassium levels, myasthenia
  • aminoglutethimide (used to treat anti-cancer)
  • ephedrine (used to relieve symptoms of a blocked nose)
  • acetazolamide (used for glaucoma)
  • carbenoxolone (used for ulcers)
  • This injection will normally be given to you by a doctor or nurse

If you use more OZURDEX 0.7MG 

  • If you think you have been given too much, tell your doctor immediately
  • Symptoms of overdosage are: swelling of the throat, skin reaction, difficulty breathing

 

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

  • feeling depressed, including thinking about suicide
  • feeling high (mania) or moods that go up and down
  • feeling anxious, having problems sleeping, difficulty in thinking or being confused and losing your memory
  • feeling, seeing or hearing things that do not exist, strange and frightening thoughts, changing how having feelings of being alone
  • skin rash or itching of the skin
  • Indigestion, stomach ulcers and pain in stomach and back
  • pain, redness or swelling at the injection site (if the injection is into a joint)
  • increased appetite
  • irregular periods or absence of periods in women
  • eye disorders including cataracts and glaucoma, infections of the eye may become worse
  • osteoporosis (thinning of the bones)
