    Introduction About ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER

    ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER contains Ciclopirox, which belongs to the group of medicines called antifungals. It is used to manage mild to moderate fungal infections of fingernails and toenails without involvement of the nail lunula (the white half-moon of the nail) in patients with a normal immune response.

    Fungal nail infections may cause nails to become thick, discoloured, fragile, cracked, and also separate from the nail bed.

    Before using ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER, inform your doctor if you have diabetic neuropathy or insulin-dependent diabetes, a history of immunosuppression, fits, a history of organ transplantation, an HIV infection, tinea pedis (fungal infections of the foot), painful or seriously damaged nails, psoriasis, oedema, or breathing disorders (yellow nail syndrome). Consult your doctor before using it.

    ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER should be used during pregnancy only if it is considered necessary, and it should be used with caution by breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before using it.

    ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER is safe for use in children aged twelve years and older, and it should be used with caution in elderly patients above 65 years of age. Consult your doctor before using ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER.

    The most common side effects of using ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER are periungual erythema (redness of the skin surrounding the nail) and erythema, or redness, of the proximal nail fold. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen.

    • To manage mild to moderate fungal infections of fingernails and toenails without involvement of nail lunula

    How ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER Works

    ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER is a broad-spectrum antifungal medication that works by inhibiting or killing a wide range of fungi that cause nail infections. Thus, it helps to manage fungal infections of the nail effectively.

    How to use ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER

    Always use ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER as directed by your physician. It is for external use only. Before starting management, remove any loose nail or nail material using nail clippers or nail files. 

    Carefully wash and dry the nails. Apply ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER, once daily (preferably at bedtime) to all affected nails with the applicator brush provided. Apply the medicine evenly over the entire affected nail and immediate adjacent skin.

    Allow the medicine to dry (for 30 seconds) before putting on socks or stockings. Wait for 8 hours before taking a bath or shower after applying medication.

    Apply ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER, daily over the previous coat and once a week, remove the medicine, with alcohol and remove as much as possible of the damaged nail using scissors, nail clippers, or nail files.

    Avoid contact with skin other than skin immediately surrounding the managed nails, mucous membrane and eyes.

    Side Effects Of ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER

    Common

    • periungual erythema (redness of the skin surrounding the nail) and erythema or redness of the proximal nail fold

    Stop using ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER is safe for use in children aged twelve years and older. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for your child depending upon the age, body weight and severity of the infection.

    Use In Geriatrics

    ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER should be used with caution in elderly patients above 65 years of age. Consult your doctor before using ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER.

    Others

    Before using ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER, inform your doctor if you:

    • have diabetic neuropathy or insulin dependent diabetes
    • have history of immunosuppression
    • have medicine dependent epilepsy or fits
    • are immunocompromised (Ex. received organ transplant)
    • have HIV infection
    • have tinea pedis (fungal infections of foot)
    • have peripheral vascular disease
    • had injury
    • have painful or seriously damaged nails
    • have skin conditions such as psoriasis or any other chronic skin condition
    • have oedema
    • have breathing disorders (yellow nail syndrome)

    Interactions

    A. Drug - Drug interactions:

    Before using ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • topical corticosteroids (medicines used to reduce skin inflammation and irritation)
    • steroid inhalers (medicines used to manage asthma, COPD)
    • oral antifungal agents (medicines used to manage fungal infections)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally used or ingested too much of ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.

    What are the uses of ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER?

    Do I need to trim the affected nails?

    Before starting the management with ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER, remove or trim any loose nails if present with nail clippers or nail fails. If you are having diabetes or numbness related problems in your toes or fingers, consult your doctor before trimming or removing the loose nails.

    How long should I use ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER?

    Always use ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER as long as advised by the doctor. Normally, management duration of fingernails is for about 6 months while for toenails it is about 9 to 12 months. Management should be continued until the problem has disappeared, that means till the nail(s) is/are clear or their appearance is improved significantly, and healthy nails has/have grown again. Do not stop using it on your own as it may worsen the nail infection.

    Can I put nail polish over the ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER?

    No, you should not use nail polish or any other cosmetic products over the managed nails as it may reduce the effectiveness of the management or worsens the condition.

    What should I tell my doctor before using ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER?

    Before using ONYLAC 8% NAIL LACQUER, inform your doctor if you have diabetic neuropathy or insulin dependent diabetes, history of immunosuppression, medicine dependent epilepsy or fits, are immunocompromised (Ex. received organ transplant), have HIV infection, tinea pedis (fungal infections of foot), peripheral vascular disease, had injury, painful or seriously damaged nails and skin conditions such as psoriasis or any other chronic skin condition, oedema or have breathing disorders (yellow nail syndrome).
