What is MUCOTAB Tablet used for?

MUCOTAB Tablet is also known as N-acetylcysteine (NAC) or N-acetyl-L-cysteine.

  • MUCOTAB Tablet oral tablets, capsules and respiratory powder for inhalation are used
  • to treat chest infections like bronchitis, pneumonia, cystic fibrosis;
  • in anti-aging treatment;
  • to treat kidney failure (which occurs due to certain dyes used in X-ray procedure).
  • Intravenous MUCOTAB Tablet (injectable) is used to treat
  • symptoms of chest pain (angina);
  • an overdose of Paracetamol.

MUCOTAB Tablet may also be prescribed for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

How does MUCOTAB Tablet work?

  • MUCOTAB Tablet is derived from N-acetyl cysteine, which is formed from the amino acid L-cysteine.
  • MUCOTAB Tablet thins and clears the mucus from the airways in respiratory diseases.
  • MUCOTAB Tablet helps in the formation of glutathione, a powerful antioxidant normally found in the liver, and enhances non-toxic metabolism of Acetaminophen. This protects the liver cells from NAPQI (N-acetyl-p-benzoquinone imine) toxicity, which can lead to acute liver failure.

How to take MUCOTAB Tablet?

  • The dosage of oral tablets, capsules, inhalation powder and intravenous form of MUCOTAB Tablet depends on the age, weight and medical condition of an individual. Take MUCOTAB Tablet as prescribed by your doctor.
  • If you miss a dose of MUCOTAB Tablet formulation, please take it immediately once you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
  • On oral administration:
  • MUCOTAB Tablet inhalation solution must be prepared from the powder and inhaled directly from the nebulizer or with a face mask, mouth piece, tent, or intermittent positive pressure breathing (IPPB) machine.
  • Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor.
  • On intravenous MUCOTAB Tablet (injectable) administration:
  • Do not administer yourself. Please take the help of a medical professional.

  • Running nose
  • Mouth sores
  • Flushing
  • Hypotension

  • anaphylactoid hypersensitivity reactions (angioedema, bronchospasm, respiratory distress, tachycardia and hypotension).

  • you have any history of asthma, stomach or intestinal ulcers.
  • you are allergic to food, dyes, and preservatives.
  • you have rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance.
  • you are sensitive to Carbocysteine, Erdosteine or Mecysteine.
  • you have a genetic condition called phenylketonuria where your body is unable to break down a substance called phenylalanine.
  • you are planning a surgery or any procedure.
  • you are pregnant or trying to conceive or are breastfeeding.
