Introduction About MONTEK AB TABLET
MONTEK AB TABLET is a combination of Acebrophylline and Montelukast which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-asthmatic drugs. It is used in the management of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It can also be used to manage inflammation of the airways (such as bronchitis) and can provide relief from the symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis (nasal congestion, repeated sneezing, nasal itching or a red, watery, and itchy eyes) among asthmatic patients.
Before taking MONTEK AB TABLET inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney or heart problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have fits, stomach ulcers, viral infections, hypertension or hyperthyroidism as a precaution.
MONTEK AB TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women. It should be used in breastfeeding women only if it is considered necessary by the physician.
The most common side effects of taking MONTEK AB TABLET are epigastric pain, stomach discomfort, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache and respiratory tract infections. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects trouble you.

It is used to manage and prevent:
- Asthma & COPD
- Bronchitis (inflammation of the airways)
- Seasonal allergic rhinitis (nasal congestion, repeated sneezing, nasal itching or a red, watery, and itchy eyes)
How MONTEK AB TABLET Works
MONTEK AB TABLET is a bronchodilator with anti-inflammatory properties. It blocks the release of certain chemicals (such as phosphodiesterase, leukotrienes) in the respiratory tract that triggers airway inflammation, swelling and narrowing. As a result, it widens the airways, and reduces airway inflammation. This allows the air to pass through more freely through the airways which makes breathing easier.
How to use MONTEK AB TABLET
Take MONTEK AB TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose, duration of therapy and number of doses per day depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Do not stop taking MONTEK AB TABLET once your symptoms subside without consulting your doctor.
Side Effects Of MONTEK AB TABLET
Common
- stomach pain or discomfort, heartburn, loss of appetite
- headache
- transient nausea, dizziness
- vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation
- drowsiness
- upper respiratory tract infection
- skin rash or itching
- fever
- breathing difficulties

Uncommon
- nosebleed
- dry mouth, indigestion
- bruising
- joint pain, muscle cramps
- bedwetting in children
- weakness, tiredness, feeling unwell
- oedema
Rare
- numbness of arm and legs
- lack of sleep
- fast heart rate
- high or low blood pressure
- high blood sugar levels
Stop taking MONTEK AB TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- allergic reactions (swelling of the face, lips, tongue and/or throat which may cause difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
- behaviour and mood related changes (anxiety, aggressive behaviour or hostility, depression, suicidal thoughts, hallucinations)
- fits
- increased bleeding tendency
- feeling shaky (tremor)
- strong, fast or irregular heartbeats
- flu-like symptoms accompanied with pins and needles, numbness of arms or legs, worsening of pulmonary symptoms, and/or rash
How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea and Vomiting:
Take MONTEK AB TABLET with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if your symptom worsens.
Headache:
Rest and relax. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on your forehead can be beneficial. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your headache. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.
Dizziness:
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your dizziness. Consult your doctor if your dizziness worsens.
Warning & Precautions

Pregnancy
MONTEK AB TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnancy. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Breastfeeding
It is not known whether MONTEK AB TABLET can pass through breast milk. Therefore, it should be used in breastfeeding women only if considered necessary by the physician.

Driving and Using Machines
MONTEK AB TABLET usually does not affect your ability to drive or operate any machinery. However, do not drive or handle any heavy tools or machines if you feel dizzy or drowsy after taking MONTEK AB TABLET.

Kidney
MONTEK AB TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Liver
MONTEK AB TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Allergy
Do not take MONTEK AB TABLET if you are allergic to Montelukast, Acebrophylline or to any other methylxanthines (such as theophylline, doxophylline).

Heart Disease
MONTEK AB TABLET is not recommended for use in patients suffering from myocardial infarction or arrythmias. It should be used with caution in patients with heart failure or any other heart problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
Others
MONTEK AB TABLET is not recommended for use if you:
- have an asthma attack
- have hypotension (low blood pressure)
- have fluid and electrolyte imbalance
Before taking MONTEK AB TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- have chronic alcoholism (addiction to alcohol)
- have any viral infections
- have an over-active thyroid gland
- have hypertension (high blood pressure)
- have ulcers in the stomach and/or intestines
- have fits (seizures)
Use in paediatrics:
MONTEK AB TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
Use in geriatrics:
MONTEK AB TABLET should be used with caution in the elderly patients. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking MONTEK AB TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:
- medicines used to manage fits (Ex. phenobarbital, phenytoin)
- rifampicin (a medicine used to manage tuberculosis)
- medicines used to relieve fever, pain and inflammation (Ex. aspirin, ibuprofen)
- gemfibrozil (a medicine used to control blood cholesterol levels)
- allopurinol (a medicine used to manage gout)
- cimetidine (a medicine used to manage stomach ulcers)
- medicines used to manage bacterial infections (such as ciprofloxacin, erythromycin, doxycycline, amoxicillin)
- corticosteroids (used to manage pain and inflammation) such as prednisolone
- diltiazem, verapamil (a medicine used to manage heart problems)
- frusemide (a medicine used to reduce edema and blood pressure by increasing urine output)
- isoprenaline (a medicine used to manage slow heart rate)
- oral contraceptives (birth control pills) such as ethinylestradiol
- thiabendazole (a medicine used to manage worm infections)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally took more MONTEK AB TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose might include nausea, vomiting, upper stomach pain, restlessness, fits, fast heart rate, fast heart rate, sleepiness, thirst, headache and hyperactivity.

No. Continue to use MONTEK AB TABLET as long as your doctor prescribes it to you. Do not stop using this medicine or reduce the dose suddenly without consulting your doctor as it may make it less effective.
