Talk to your Doctor, if you:

  • are allergic to Mefloquine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have depression
  • thoughts about suicide and self-endangering behaviour
  • have any other mental problem, including anxiety disorder, schizophrenia or psychosis (losing touch with reality)
  • have fits (seizures or convulsions)
  • have severe liver or kidney problems
  • have feelings of mistrust towards others (paranoia)
  • have seeing or hearing things that are not there (hallucinations)
  • have heart problems, especially changes in heart rhythm
  • have eye problems (e.g. loss of fine detail, colors seem faded, sudden loss of vision, poor vision at night)
  • have blood or lymphatic disorder
  • have inflammation of the lungs also known as pneumonitis
  • have previously contracted malaria
  • have low blood glucose due to a pre-existing condition called congenital hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • It is not recommended for children under 3 months of age
  • This medicine can cause dizziness, loss of balance and mental problems. Do not drive or use machinery while taking his medicine

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • halofantrine, quinine, quinidine, or chloroquine (used to treat or to prevent malaria)
  • beta blocking agents, calcium channel blockers (used for any heart trouble, or high blood pressure)
  • antihistamines (used for allergies)
  • anti-depressants such as tricyclic anti-depressants, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), bupropion or anti-psychotics, phenothiazines (used for some mental problems (psychiatric disorders)
  • sodium valproate, carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin (used to treat epilepsy)
  • ketoconazole (used to treat fungal infections)
  • antibiotics rifampicin, penicillin’s, cephalosporins (used to treat bacterial infections)
  • efavirenz (used to treat HIV infections)
  • tramadol (used to treat severe pain)
  • medicines for blood clotting disorders or diabetes
  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
  • Take this medicine with plenty of water and preferably after a meal
  • Swallow the medicines whole, do not suck or chew them

If you take more MEFLOC 250MG

  • If you take too many medicines or someone else accidentally takes your medicine, contact your doctor

If you forget to take MEFLOC 250MG

  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and carry on as before. Do not take a double dose

If you stop taking MEFLOC 250MG

  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor tells you to do so

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very Rare
  • depression
  • anxiety
  • sleeping problems (sleepiness, unable to sleep, bad dreams)
  • dizziness
  • headache
  • problems with your vision
  • loss of balance (vertigo)
  • nausea, vomiting
  • diarrhoea
  • stomach ache (abdominal pain)
  • itching

  • Keep this medicine out of reach of children
  • Store at a room temperature of 15-25°C
