MAPHYL 2MG TABLET contains Trihexyphenidyl which belongs to the group of medicines called Central Anticholinergics. It is used to improve muscle control in patients with Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson’s disease is a long-term brain disorder that causes muscle stiffness, shaking, slow and unsteady movements, difficulty in walking and loss of balance. It happens due to loss of nerve cells at certain regions of brain (basal ganglia) that controls body movements.
MAPHYL 2MG TABLET can also be used to control abnormal involuntary muscle movements (such as extreme restlessness or muscle spasms) in the body that is caused due to the use of certain medicines.
Trihexyphenidyl is a muscle relaxant. It reduces muscle stiffness and relaxes muscles by reducing the activity of a chemical messenger called acetylcholine in the brain. It also restores a balance between certain brain chemicals (dopamine and acetylcholine) that controls body movements.
Before taking MAPHYL 2MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have glaucoma, high blood pressure, stomach ulcer or problems in your prostate gland. You must also inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney, or heart problems before taking MAPHYL 2MG TABLET as a precaution.
Talk to your doctor before taking MAPHYL 2MG TABLET if you have myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness) or tardive dyskinesia (unusual movements of face and tongue). Consult your doctor before taking MAPHYL 2MG TABLET if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
The most common side effects of taking MAPHYL 2MG TABLET are dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, and vomiting. Consult your doctor if any of these side effect worsens.

MAPHYL 2MG TABLET is an anticholinergic medicine with muscle relaxing properties. It reduces muscle stiffness and improves muscle control by reducing the activity of a chemical messenger called acetylcholine in the brain. It also regulates the release of a brain chemical called dopamine that regulates proper body movements and coordination. As a result, it reduces abnormal muscle movements associated with Parkinson’s disease and with the use of certain medicines.
Take MAPHYL 2MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow MAPHYL 2MG TABLET with a glass of water. Do not chew or crush the medicine. It must be taken with or just before meals.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Continue to take MAPHYL 2MG TABLET for the stipulated duration as advised by your doctor without any interruption to achieve maximum benefits.
Stop taking MAPHYL 2MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
Eat plenty of fiber rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and cereals. Drink plenty of fluids. Exercise more regularly. Consult your doctor if this side effect bothers you.
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your dizziness. Consult your doctor if your dizziness worsens.
Drink plenty of water or fluids at regular intervals. Frequent small sips of water or the use of artificial saliva may be beneficial. However, if it bothers you or if your condition worsens contact your doctor.
Take MAPHYL 2MG TABLET with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if your nausea worsens.
MAPHYL 2MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
MAPHYL 2MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy after taking MAPHYL 2MG TABLET.
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking MAPHYL 2MG TABLET.
MAPHYL 2MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
MAPHYL 2MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
Do not take MAPHYL 2MG TABLET if you are allergic to Trihexyphenidyl.
MAPHYL 2MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with heart problems (such as high blood pressure). Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
