What is Levetiracetam used for?

Levetiracetam is used in the treatment of epilepsy. It is used to treat the following types of seizures:

  • Myoclonic seizures
  • Partial onset seizure
  • Refractory seizure disorders

How does Levetiracetam work?

Levetiracetam belongs to the class of drugs called anti-convulsants. It acts as a neuromodulator and works by binding to a synaptic vesicle glycoprotein. This inhibits pre-synaptic calcium channels and reduces the neurotransmitter release.

How to take Levetiracetam?

Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush or chew the tablet. Take the drug with or without food. However, taking the drug with food prevents stomach upset.
