What LAMETEC DT is used for?

It is used:

  • together with other medicines to treat certain types of seizures (partial seizures, primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures, generalized seizures of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome) in people 2 years or older
  • alone when changing from other medicines used to treat partial seizures in people 16 years or older
  • for the long-term treatment of Bipolar I Disorder to lengthen the time between mood episodes in people 18 years or older who have been treated for mood episodes with other medicine

Tell your doctor if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines including herbal medicines or other medicines bought without a prescription such as

  • valproate, lithium, risperidone, olanzapine used to treat mental health problems
  • amitriptyline, bupropion, clonazepam, haloperidol, or lorazepam
  • hormonal contraceptives, such as the Pill

  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
  • LAMETEC DT may be swallowed whole, chewed, or mixed in water or diluted fruit juice
  • If the tablets are chewed, drink a small amount of water or diluted fruit juice to help in swallowing
  • To break up LAMETEC DT, add the tablets to a small amount of liquid (1 teaspoon, or enough to cover the medicine) in a glass or spoon. Wait at least 1 minute or until the tablets are completely broken up, mix the solution together and take the whole amount right away

If you take more LAMETEC DT

  • If you take more LAMETEC DT than you should contact a doctor or nearest hospital emergency department immediately

If you forget to take LAMETEC DT

  • If you miss a dose of LAMETEC DT, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, just skip the missed dose. Take the next dose at your regular time. Do not take two doses at the same time

If you stop taking LAMETEC DT

  • Do not stop taking LAMETEC DT without talking to your healthcare provider. Stopping LAMETEC DT suddenly may cause serious problems. For example, if you have epilepsy and you stop taking LAMETEC DT suddenly, you may get seizures that do not stop. Talk with your healthcare provider about how to stop LAMETEC DT slowly

  • an extreme increase in activity and talking (mania)
  • other unusual changes in behavior or mood
  • allergic reactions such as skin rash, hives fever, painful sores in the mouth or around your eyes
