INTRODUCTION

HALOX ES OINTMENT is a combination of Halobetasol and Salicylic acid which belongs to the group of medicines called Corticosteroids and Keratolytic agents respectively. It is used to treat eczema, psoriasis. This medicine is also used to treat dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis and inflammatory dermatoses.

Eczema is a skin inflammatory disorder characterized by red and itchy rashes. The utmost common cause of eczema is allergies. Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease of the skin that is characterized by red, itchy, and scaly rashes.

HALOX ES OINTMENT should not be used on the face, groin, or in axillae. HALOX ES OINTMENT is not recommended to use in patients who have rosacea or perioral dermatitis.

HALOX ES OINTMENT should be used with caution among pregnant and breastfeeding women. HALOX ES OINTMENT is not recommended to use in children and adolescents under 12 years of age and it should be used with caution in elderly patients.

The most common side effect of this medicine is thinning of skin, dry skin, and application site reactions (burning, irritation, itching, and redness). Consult your doctor if the above side effects worsen. Avoid applying this medicine around your eyes, including your eyelids.

USES OF HALOX ES OINTMENT

It is used to treat:

  • eczema
  • psoriasis

HOW HALOX ES OINTMENT WORKS

HALOX ES OINTMENT is a combination of Halobetasol and Salicylic acid. Halobetasol is a steroid which works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen, and itchy. Salicylic acid works by breaking down keratin clumps, removing dead skin cells, and softening the skin. It also increases the absorption of halobetasol into the skin.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Apply HALOX ES OINTMENT as directed by your physician. It is for external use only. Apply a thin layer of HALOX ES OINTMENT to the affected area. Treated areas on the face should not be covered with a plaster or bandage. Your doctor will decide the right dose, and duration depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF HALOX ES OINTMENT

COMMON

  • thinning of the skin

  • application site reaction (burning, irritation, itching, and redness)

RARE

Stop using HALOX ES OINTMENT and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • allergic reactions (signs include dry skin and skin irritation)
  • dizziness, deafness, and hearing disturbance

ALLERGY

Do not use if you are allergic to Halobetasol, Salicylic acid, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

OTHERS

Before using HALOX ES OINTMENT, inform your doctor if you:

  • have Cushing’s syndrome
  • have hyperglycemia
  • have glucosuria

Use in pediatrics:

HALOX ES OINTMENT is generally not recommended to use in children and adolescents (below 12 years of age). Consult your doctor before using this medicine.

Use in geriatrics:

In elderly patients, HALOX ES OINTMENT should be used with caution. Consult your doctor before using this medicine.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before using HALOX ES OINTMENT, inform your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken or might take any other medicines including medicines taken without prescription and herbal preparations.

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally apply too much or a small quantity of the HALOX ES OINTMENT is accidentally swallowed, it is unlikely to cause any harm. If a larger quantity of the HALOX ES OINTMENT is accidentally swallowed consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
