INTRODUCTION
FIXICAN M TABLET is a combination of Cefixime and Moxifloxacin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used in adults to treat respiratory tract infections (such as sinus infections, pneumonia, tonsillitis, pharyngitis etc.). It can also be used to treat reproductive tract infections (such as infections of the fallopian tubes or uterus), urinary tract infections and skin and soft tissue infections (such as cellulitis, erysipelas, impetigo, folliculitis, and furuncles and carbuncles).
Take FIXICAN M TABLET for the stipulated duration instructed by your doctor even if you feel better during the midway of the therapy to achieve better results. Failing to complete the full course of the therapy or skipping doses in between the therapy may not result in adequate infection control.
Before taking FIXICAN M TABLET inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney or heart problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have any stomach problems, muscle problems, aneurysm or any blood vessel problems, joint pain, diabetes, hypertension, epilepsy or any mental health problem as a precaution.
Do not take FIXICAN M TABLET without consulting your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is also not suitable for use in children aged below 18 years. While taking FIXICAN M TABLET drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated and avoid unnecessary sun exposure. Periodically monitor your blood sugar levels as a precaution.
The most common side effects of taking FIXICAN M TABLET are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain and bloating. Inform your doctor if they trouble you.

It is used to treat various bacterial infections such as:
- Respiratory tract infections (such as bronchitis and pneumonia)
- Sinus infections (such as sinusitis)
- Throat infections (such as tonsillitis and pharyngitis)
- Urinary tract infections (such as cystitis and kidney infections)
- Reproductive tract infections (such as gonorrhoea)
- Skin and soft tissue infections (such as cellulitis, erysipelas, impetigo, folliculitis, and furuncles and carbuncles)
HOW FIXICAN M TABLET WORKS
FIXICAN M TABLET is a powerful antibiotic. It kills the susceptible bacteria that causes infection. It works by interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis and by blocking the production of certain essential bacterial proteins (such as topoisomerase II, topoisomerase IV) which is required for the bacteria to survive.
Additionally, it can also remain unaffected by the toxic proteins produced by the bacteria. As a result, it destroys the susceptible bacteria and prevent their further growth and multiplication within the body which helps in reducing the severity of the infection.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take FIXICAN M TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow FIXICAN M TABLET with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. FIXICAN M TABLET can be taken with or without food.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and severity of the infection.
Do not stop taking FIXICAN M TABLET once your symptoms subside. It is important to take FIXICAN M TABLET for the stipulated duration recommended by your doctor to achieve control over the infection.

COMMON
- nausea or vomiting

- weakness or tiredness

- dehydration, dry skin
RARE
- hallucination
- high or low blood pressure
- swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, lips, mouth, throat
- liver and kidney problems
- mouth ulcers
- ringing noise in the ears
- disturbed concentration
- changes in smell
- partial or total loss of memory
- hearing impairment
- increased blood uric acid
- impaired speech
Stop taking FIXICAN M TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- signs of severe allergic reactions (such as skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, throat or tongue causing difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
- severe skin reactions (such as widespread skin rash, blistering, peeling or bleeding on any part of the skin with fever, chills, enlarged lymph nodes and malaise or pink or reddish skin lesions on palms or soles)
- unusual bleeding or bruising, bleeding from the nose or gums with pale skin, tiredness, chills and shortness of breath
- bloody urine or difficulties in urination
- signs of brain damage (such as fits with or without confusion, lack of alertness and unusual muscle movements)
- signs of stomach damage causing severe uncontrollable watery diarrhoea, feeling weak and fever
- severe muscle pain
- palpitation or abnormal heartbeat, sudden onset of breathing difficulties even while at rest, swelling of body parts
- signs of liver damage (such as nausea, vomiting, severe stomach pain, yellowing of skin and whites of the eye, dark urine, pale stools, skin itchiness, confusion)
- sudden severe pain in the upper stomach, chest or back side (signs of problems in aorta)
- fits
- signs of nerve damage (such as pain, burning, tingling sensation or numbness of body parts, weakness)
- depression or thoughts of harming or killing themselves
- joint pain and swelling, tendon inflammation
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea or vomiting:
Take FIXICAN M TABLET with, or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. Please consult your doctor immediately if you experience severe nausea and vomiting.
Diarrhea:
Drink plenty of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Consuming ORS can also be beneficial. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor. If your diarrhea worsens, contact your doctor immediately.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
FIXICAN M TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice before taking it.
BREASTFEEDING
FIXICAN M TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice before taking it.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any heavy tools or machines if your ability is affected by FIXICAN M TABLET.
ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking FIXICAN M TABLET as it might make you feel dizzier.
KIDNEY
FIXICAN M TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
LIVER
FIXICAN M TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
ALLERGY
Do not take FIXICAN M TABLET if you are allergic to Cefixime, Moxifloxacin or to any other cephalosporin antibiotics (such as ceftriaxone) or quinolone antibiotics (such as ofloxacin, ciprofloxacin).
HEART DISEASE
FIXICAN M TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with abnormal heart rhythm, slow heart rate or heart failure. It should be used with caution in patients with poor functioning of heart valves, hypertension, heart infection (endocarditis) or a family history of heart valve disease. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
OTHERS
FIXICAN M TABLET is not recommended for use if you:
- previously experienced problems in bones or tendons while using a quinolone antibiotic
- have salt and electrolyte imbalance in the body
Before taking FIXICAN M TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- have ever had colitis (inflammation of the colon)
- are going to have any blood or urine test in the upcoming days
- have diabetes
- have epilepsy
- have any mental health problems
- have G6PD deficiency (a genetic disorder that affects body’s metabolism)
- have myasthenia gravis (severe muscle weakness)
- have any complication genital tract infections associated with pus or abscess
- have or have a family history of aortic aneurysm (abnormal bulging or swelling in aorta)
- previously had a tear in aortic wall
- have any connective tissue disorder
- have any autoimmune or vascular disorders that affects blood vessels
- have atherosclerosis (plaque deposition in the blood vessel that hinder blood flow)
- have rheumatoid arthritis (joint pain)
Use in paediatrics:
FIXICAN M TABLET is generally not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) due to lack of safety data. However, consult your doctor for advice before taking it.
Use in geriatrics:
FIXICAN M TABLET should be used with caution in the elderly patients. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice before taking it.

- warfarin (a medicine used for blood thinning)
- carbamazepine (a medicine used for epilepsy)
- medicines used to treat abnormal heart rhythm (such as hydroquinidine, disopyramide, amiodarone, sotalol, dofetilide, ibutilide)
- medicines that can decrease potassium levels in blood (such as furosemide, chlorothiazides)
- medicines used to treat psychiatric illness (such as phenothiazines, pimozide, sertindole, haloperidol, sultopride)
- medicines used to treat depression (such as fluoxetine, sertraline)
- saquinavir, didanosine (medicines used to treat HIV infection)
- medicines used to treat bacterial infections (such as sparoxacin, intravenous erythromycin, pentamidine)
- medicines used to treat malaria (such as halofantrine)
- medicines used to treat allergic reactions (such as terfenadine, astemizole, mizolastine)
- cisapride (a medicine used to treat heart burn)
- intravenous vincamine (a medicine used to treat hypertension)
- diphemanil (a medicine used to treat peptic ulcer)
- bepridil (a medicine used to treat hypertension and angina)
- laxatives and enema that can cause low potassium levels in blood (such as magnesium oxide, magnesium citrate, sodium phosphate)
- corticosteroids (used to treat pain and inflammation) such as prednisolone
- amphotericin B (a medicine used to treat fungal infection)
- medicines used to neutralize stomach acid secretions (such as magaldrate, aluminium hydroxide, sucralfate)
- activated charcoal (used for indigestion or bloating)
