INTRODUCTION

EZENTIA 10MG contains Ezetimibe which belongs to the group of medicines called cholesterol lowering agents. It reduces increased cholesterol levels in blood stream among patients who cannot control their cholesterol levels through diet. Cholesterol is a type of fatty substance found in the bloodstream. It contains two types, namely LDL (low-density lipoprotein), often referred as “bad” cholesterol because it can build up in the walls of your arteries forming plaque and HDL (high-density lipoprotein), often called “good” cholesterol because it prevents the bad cholesterol from building up in the arteries and protects against heart disease.

This medicine reduces the levels of bad cholesterol and fatty substances in the bloodstream. In addition, it raises the levels of “good” cholesterol (HDL cholesterol). It works by reducing the absorption of cholesterol in your digestive tract. Along with the treatment, your doctor might recommend you to make certain lifestyle changes such as quitting alcohol and smoking, eating a healthy diet and manage weight. The most common side effect of taking this medicine are stomach pain, diarrhea and bloating. Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have severe liver disease. Your doctor may ask you to take blood tests to check how well your liver is working. Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor for advice.

USES OF EZENTIA 10MG

  • Hypercholesterolemia (increased cholesterol levels in blood stream)

HOW EZENTIA 10MG WORKS

After administration, ezetimibe localizes and acts on the brush border of small intestine and inhibits the absorption of cholesterol, without altering the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and nutrients. This leads to a decrease in the delivery of intestinal cholesterol to the liver, and results in reduction of hepatic cholesterol stores and an increase in clearance of cholesterol from the blood. Ezetimibe does not inhibit hepatic cholesterol synthesis or increase bile acid excretion.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

The recommended dosage is one tablet per day or as directed by your physician. It can be taken with or without food. Swallow the medicine as a whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose for you depending upon your condition. Continue to take this medicine, as long as your doctor tells you to do so, to obtain better results.
