What is the use of ESPERAL TABLET?
ESPERAL TABLET is used to support the treatment of alcohol dependence (or alcohol addiction). It helps to quit the habit of alcoholism in patients having a habit of drinking excessive alcohol (chronic alcoholism).
How ESPERAL TABLET works in my body?
ESPERAL TABLET acts by blocking the actions of certain enzymes (such as aldehyde dehydrogenase) within the body that helps in breaking down a substance called as acetaldehyde. This leads to the accumulation of an excessive amount of acetaldehyde in the body causing unpleasant physical reactions which will eventually help in quitting alcoholism.
Is ESPERAL TABLET safe?
ESPERAL TABLET is considered safe at doses prescribed by the physician.
What are the side effects of taking ESPERAL TABLET?
The most common side effects of taking ESPERAL TABLET are drowsiness, tiredness, impotence, low sex drive, headache, sleepiness and metallic taste. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects worsen.
Can I stop taking ESPERAL TABLET once my symptoms subside?
No. Take ESPERAL TABLET every day until your doctor tells you to stop. Do not stop taking this medicine abruptly or reduce the dose without consulting your doctor. Your doctor will assess your disease condition regularly and will increase or decrease the dose accordingly.
Will ESPERAL TABLET be more effective if taken at higher doses?
Always consume the dose prescribed for you by your physician. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending on your age, body weight and severity of the disease. Do not take a higher dose of this medicine without consulting your doctor as it could lead to unwanted side effects. If your symptoms are not relieved by the prescribed dose, consult your doctor so that he might adjust the dose according to your health condition or can suggest an alternative therapy.

ESPERAL TABLET is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women unless considered necessary by the physician. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
Can ESPERAL TABLET be used in adolescents?
ESPERAL TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
What happens when you forget to take ESPERAL TABLET?
If you forget to take ESPERAL TABLET, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose. Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed dose.
Can I take ESPERAL TABLET daily?
Take ESPERAL TABLET as advised by your physician. Your doctor will evaluate your health condition and suggest whether can you take ESPERAL TABLET every day or not.
