Introduction About ECOGREL 5MG TABLET
ECOGREL 5MG TABLET contains Prasugrel which belongs to the group of medicines called Antiplatelet agents. It is used to manage blood clot formation in the body. It can also reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, angina (chest pain) and other circulatory problems among patients having heart block, stents in the heart or other heart-related complications.
Before taking ECOGREL 5MG TABLET inform your doctor if you have any liver or kidney problems. It is strictly not recommended for use in patients with severe liver problems or bleeding problems (internal bleeding conditions).
ECOGREL 5MG TABLET may make you bleed more easily even after minor cuts or injuries, and so be cautions while you perform even minor activities in your day-to-day life that involves risk of cuts or injuries (like shaving, playing, or handling sharp objects).
You must also inform your doctor if you recently met with any accident or have stomach ulcers, or scheduled for any upcoming surgeries as a precaution, as they could make you bleed more.
Inform your doctor before taking ECOGREL 5MG TABLET if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The most common side effects of taking ECOGREL 5MG TABLET are increased bleeding tendency, anemia, skin rashes and low RBC in blood. Consult your doctor if any of these side effect worsens.

How ECOGREL 5MG TABLET Works
ECOGREL 5MG TABLET is an antiplatelet medication. It manages the clumping of platelets (a type of blood cells that causes blood clot) within the blood vessels. This reduces the chances of blood clot formation within the blood vessel and improves blood flow within them. As a result, it reduces the risk of heart attack, stroke and angina.
How to use ECOGREL 5MG TABLET
Take ECOGREL 5MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. It can be taken with or without meals.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Do not stop taking ECOGREL 5MG TABLET without consulting your doctor.
Side Effects Of ECOGREL 5MG TABLET
Common
- increased bleeding or bruising (even after minor cuts)
- nasal bleeds
- skin rashes, red bruises on the skin
- bleeding under the skin if you receive any injections
- anemia (low RBC in blood)
Uncommon
- bleeding gums
Rare
- low blood platelet count
Stop taking ECOGREL 5MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- signs of Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP, such as fever and bruising under the skin which can be seen as red pinpoint dots on the skin, with or without extreme tiredness, confusion and yellowing of the skin or eyes)
- signs of stroke (sudden numbness or weakness of the arm, leg or face, especially at one side of the body, sudden confusion, difficulty in speaking and walking, sudden dizziness, or severe headache)
- signs of allergic skin reactions (such as skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, mouth, throat and tongue which causes difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
- rectal bleeding, black or blood-stained stools, bloody urine
How To Manage Side Effects
Skin rashes:
Avoid hot showers at it may further irritate your skin. Use protective clothing while going outdoors. Consult your doctor for a suitable moisturizer. Do not scratch or rub the affected skin areas. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

Pregnancy
ECOGREL 5MG TABLET should be used in pregnant women only if considered necessary by the physician. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Breastfeeding
ECOGREL 5MG TABLET should be used in breastfeeding women only if considered necessary by the physician. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Driving and Using Machines
ECOGREL 5MG TABLET is unlikely to affect your ability to drive or operate any machines.

Kidney
ECOGREL 5MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney diseases. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Liver
ECOGREL 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver diseases. It should be used with caution in patients with moderate liver problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Allergy
Do not take ECOGREL 5MG TABLET if you are allergic to Prasugrel.
Others
ECOGREL 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you:
- have any internal bleeding condition (such as bleeding in the gut)
- have ever had a stroke
- have ever had a transient ischaemic attack (a brief period with stroke-like symptoms)
Before taking ECOGREL 5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- had any serious injury recently
- have any stomach conditions (Ex. ulcers or polyps) that can increase the risk of GI bleeding
- have a body weight less than 60 kg
- are scheduled for any upcoming surgery (including minor dental surgery) or recently had one
Use in pediatrics:
ECOGREL 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
Use in geriatrics:
ECOGREL 5MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 75 years or above). Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking ECOGREL 5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:
- other medicines used to manage blood clots in the body (Ex. clopidogrel, warfarin)
- non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (used for pain relief) such as ibuprofen, naproxen, etoricoxib
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally took more ECOGREL 5MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose includes excessive bleeding.
