What DEPAKOTE XR 500MG is used for?
DEPAKOTE XR 500MG is used,
- to treat manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder
- to treat complex partial seizures in adults and children 10 years of age and older
- to treat simple and complex absence seizures, with or without other seizure types
- to prevent migraine headaches
Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, if you:
- are allergic to divalproex or any other ingredients of this medicine
- have a genetic problem call a urea cycle disorder
- are an alcoholic
- have liver problems
- have or have had depression, mood problems or suicidal thoughts or behavior
- have any other medical conditions
- Take DEPAKOTE XR 500MG exactly as your healthcare provider tells you
- Your healthcare provider may change your dose
If you take more DEPAKOTE XR 500MG
- If you take too much DEPAKOTE XR 500MG, call your healthcare provider immediately
If you forget to take DEPAKOTE XR 500MG
- If you miss a dose, just skip that dose. Do not take 2 doses at the same time
If you stop taking DEPAKOTE XR 500MG
- Do not stop taking DEPAKOTE XR 500MG without first talking to your healthcare provider
Like all medicines DEPAKOTE XR 500MG can cause side effects although not everybody gets them.

- liver damage that can cause death, especially in children younger than 2 years old
- nausea or vomiting that does not go away
- abdominal discomfort
- dark urine
- swelling of your face
- yellowing of your skin or eyes
- suicidal thoughts
- worse depression or anxiety
- panic attacks
- trouble sleeping (insomnia)
- allergic reactions like fever, skin rash, hives, sores in your mouth, blistering and peeling of your skin
- drowsiness or sleepiness in the elderly
