    Introduction About CLAMIST 1MG TABLET

    CLAMIST 1MG TABLET contains Clemastine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antihistamines. It is used for symptomatic management of allergic rhinitis (inflammation of nose), for symptomatic management of urticaria (a type of skin rash) and for relieving itching allergic non-inflammatory skin conditions (dermatoses).

    CLAMIST 1MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with porphyria (a metabolic disorder affecting red blood cells). Contact your doctor before taking it.

    CLAMIST 1MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with fits, glaucoma, severe stomach problems, prostate disorders. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    CLAMIST 1MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant and breast-feeding women and in children under 3 years of age. It should be used with caution in elderly patients as it may cause confusion. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    The most common side effects of taking CLAMIST 1MG TABLET are drowsiness and fatigue. Contact your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen.

    How CLAMIST 1MG TABLET Works

    CLAMIST 1MG TABLET works by blocking the effects of a chemical called histamine, a substance released in the body during allergic reactions. Thus, helps to control allergic symptoms such as red rash, tissue swelling or severe itching.

    How to use CLAMIST 1MG TABLET

    Take CLAMIST 1MG TABLET as advised by your doctor. It should be taken before meals. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of CLAMIST 1MG TABLET

    Common

    • fatigue
    • drowsiness

    Uncommon

    • dizziness

    Rare

    • excitability, especially in children
    • breathing problems
    • nausea, dry mouth, abdominal pain, upset stomach
    • headache
    • skin rash
    • weakness

    Stop taking CLAMIST 1MG TABLET and consult with your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms:

    • severe allergic reaction symptoms such as difficulty in breathing or swallowing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, severe itching of the skin, with a red rash or raised bumps, fast heart rate (palpitations) and shock

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Headache:

    Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or ORS (Oral Rehydrating Solution) and apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if necessary. Contact your doctor if your headache did not improve.

    Drowsiness:

    Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operate any machines while you are feeling drowsy. Do not drink alcohol, as it can aggravate your drowsiness. Contact your doctor if your drowsiness did not improve.

    Nausea:

    Take CLAMIST 1MG TABLET, with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food. Contact your doctor if your nausea did not improve.

    Dry mouth:

    Try to drink plenty of cold water. Sip on cold unsweetened drinks and use lip balm if your lips are dry. Try to brush your teeth twice a day and use mouthwash. Consult your doctor if the dry mouth gets worse.

    Stomach pain:

    Try to rest and relax. Eat small meals but take frequently. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. Contact your doctor if your stomach pain worsens.

    Skin rash:

    Avoid hot bath because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing while going outside. Use unscented moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the affected area. Contact your doctor if your rashes worsen.

    Pregnancy

    CLAMIST 1MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women or are planning for pregnancy. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Breastfeeding

    CLAMIST 1MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or operate machines if you feel dizziness or drowsiness and fatigue after taking CLAMIST 1MG TABLET.

    Alcohol

    Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking this medicine as it may increase the effects of alcohol.

    Allergy

    Do not take CLAMIST 1MG TABLET if you are allergic to clemastine or to other arylalkylamine antihistamines or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

    Others

    CLAMIST 1MG TABLET is not recommended for you, if you:

    • have porphyria (a metabolic disorder affecting red blood cells)

    Before taking CLAMIST 1MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

    • have epilepsy or fits
    • have glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye)
    • have prostate disorders
    • have bladder neck obstruction (problems with urination)
    • have intolerance to lactose or other sugars
    • have stenosing peptic ulcer (narrowing of the upper digestive tract caused by an ulcer)
    • have pyloroduodenal obstruction (obstruction caused by inflammation of the intestine)

    Use in pediatrics:

    CLAMIST 1MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children under 3 years of age. It should be used with caution in children above 3 years of age due to increased risk of excitation. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Use in geriatrics:

    CLAMIST 1MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients as it may cause confusion. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before taking CLAMIST 1MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • anti-anxiety medicines (used to manage anxiety) Ex. alprazolam, chlordiazepoxide
    • painkillers Ex. tramadol, morphine, oxycodone (used to manage severe pain)
    • monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) (medicines used to manage depression) Ex. isocarboxazid, phenelzine
    • anticholinergic drugs Ex. dicyclomine (used to manage irritable bowel syndrome)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of CLAMIST 1MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose includes clinical depression or central nervous system stimulation, dry mouth, fixed dilated pupils or flushing, upset stomach and rapid heartbeat.

You should not take CLAMIST 1MG TABLET for more than 14 days without consulting your doctor and he/she will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
