    Introduction About CEFUROXIME SODIUM (SUN) 250MG INJECTION

    CEFUROXIME SODIUM (SUN) 250MG INJECTION contains Cefuroxime which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to manage bacterial infections such as lower respiratory tract infections, meningitis, septicemia, abdominal infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, ear, nose and throat infections, obstetric and gynecological infections, bone, joint infections and gonorrhea. CEFUROXIME SODIUM (SUN) 250MG INJECTION is also used to manage infections, before and after surgery.

    Tell your doctor before receiving CEFUROXIME SODIUM (SUN) 250MG INJECTION if you have or had a history of kidney or liver diseases, fungal diseases or diarrhoea. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, inform your doctor before receiving CEFUROXIME SODIUM (SUN) 250MG INJECTION. Inform your doctor if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to cephalosporins, penicillin or any antibiotics before receiving the medicine.

    Your doctor will administer the right dose depends on your child’s age, body weight and disease condition. CEFUROXIME SODIUM (SUN) 250MG INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly patients, consult your doctor before receiving the medicine. The most common side effect of receiving this medicine is pain at the injection site, swelling and redness. Consult your doctor immediately if any of the above symptoms worsen.

    Uses Of CEFUROXIME SODIUM (SUN) 250MG INJECTION

    It is used to manage:

    • respiratory tract infections
    • urinary tract infections
    • ear, nose, throat infections
    • soft tissue infections

    How CEFUROXIME SODIUM (SUN) 250MG INJECTION Works

    CEFUROXIME SODIUM (SUN) 250MG INJECTION contains Cefuroxime which is a second-generation cephalosporin that interferes with the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall by binding to specific binding proteins located inside the bacterial cell wall. This leads to breaking down the cell wall of the bacteria and reducing its stability, thus causing cell damage, and eventually causing bacterial elimination.

    How to use CEFUROXIME SODIUM (SUN) 250MG INJECTION

    CEFUROXIME SODIUM (SUN) 250MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or nurse by intramuscularly (into a muscle) or intravenously (into the vein). Your doctor will administer the correct dose for you depending upon your age, body weight and severity of infection.

    Side Effects Of CEFUROXIME SODIUM (SUN) 250MG INJECTION

    Common

    • pain (injection site), swelling and redness along a vein
    • increase in liver enzyme
    • changes in white blood cells (neutropenia or eosinophilia)
    • low levels of red blood cells (anemia)
    • high temperature
    • sore throat

    Uncommon

    • skin rashes, urticaria (itchy red wheals), pruritus (bumpy rash)
    • gastrointestinal disturbances
    • diarrhoea
    • nausea
    • increase in bilirubin (a substance produced by the liver)
    • positive coomb’s test

    Rare

    Stop receiving CEFUROXIME SODIUM (SUN) 250MG INJECTION and consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects

    • severe allergic reaction (raised and itchy rash, swelling on face, mouth causing difficulty to breath)
    • skin rash with blisters and peeling of skin (signs of Steven-Johnson’s syndrome/ toxic epidermal necrolysis)
    • skin rash with blisters looking like a small dark spot surrounded by a paler area, with a dark ring around the edge
    • fungal infections
    • severe diarrhoea (Pseudomembranous colitis), causing severe diarrhoea, usually with blood and mucus, stomach pain, and fever

    Liver

    Allergy

    Contraindicated

    Do not receive CEFUROXIME SODIUM (SUN) 250MG INJECTION if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Cefuroxime, cephalosporin, penicillin, monobactams, carbapenems or to any other ingredients of this medicine.

    • severe persistent diarrhoea along with sickness

    • have gastrointestinal disorder (diarrhoea)
    • have fungal infection

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before receiving CEFUROXIME SODIUM (SUN) 250MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are receiving any of the following medicine:

    • medicine to manage bacterial infections such as aminoglycoside-type antibiotics (Ex. gentamycin)
    • medicine used to manage increase high blood pressure (Ex. furosemide)
    • medicine used to manage gout (Ex. probenecid)
    • medicine used to manage blood clots such as oral anticoagulants (Ex. warfarin)
    • medicines used for contraception (Ex. ethinyl estradiol)

    Overdosage:

    It is unlikely to receive overdose since it will be administered by the doctor or nurse. If you experience any unusual side effects, consult your doctor immediately.
