INTRODUCTION

CARNISURE contains levocarnitine which belongs to the group of medicines called amino acid derivatives. It is used to treat levocarnitine amnio acid deficiency in the body. Deficiency of levocarnitine can occur either due to systemic deficiency at birth or can occur as an effect of various metabolic disorders or when patient is diagnosed with end stage kidney disorder and is on hemodialysis.

This reduced levels of levocarnitine results in decreased energy leading to muscle weakness (muscles of hips, shoulders, neck, jaw and even heart muscles) and in severe cases can lead to fatigue, low blood sugar, stomach pain, growth retardation and brain function defects. CARNISURE helps to treat these symptoms by treating the deficiency.

Levocarnitine is a naturally occurring substance in the body that is essential for the energy metabolism. It is utilized in the process of energy production in the energy building bodies of our cells (mitochondria). This helps in sustaining the muscular activity of heart and other muscles.

Before taking CARNISURE, your doctor may want you take blood tests to check for the existing amount of Levocarnitine in circulation to determine the correct dosage for you. CARNISURE is not recommended for use in patients suffering from history of fits or severely compromised renal function.

Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have diabetes and are taking medications of it (Ex. insulin, metformin etc.) or taking medications for anti-clotting disorders (Ex. Warfarin, Heparin, Aspirin, Clopidogrel).

CARNISURE should be used with caution among pregnant or breastfeeding women, therefore consult your doctor before taking. The most common side effects of taking CARNISURE are vomiting, nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, headache, abnormal taste or body odour (fish like smell). Contact doctor if any of the symptoms get worse.

  • secondary carnitine deficiency due to certain metabolic disorders that result in accumulation of abnormal and toxic metabolites (Ex. methyl malonic aciduria, propionic acidemia, glutaric aciduria and medium chain fatty acetyl dehydrogenase deficiency
  • secondary carnitine deficiency due to hemodialysis
