INTRODUCTION

CANMAB 50MG INJECTION contains Trastuzumab which belongs to the group of medicines called Anticancer drugs. It is used to treat breast cancer and stomach cancer. It can be used either alone or in combination with other anticancer drugs (such as paclitaxel, cisplatin, docetaxel, 5-fluorouracil, capecitabine) or hormonal drugs (such as tamoxifen, anastrozole) to achieve better results.

CANMAB 50MG INJECTION will be administered to you only by an oncologist or by a trained professional into your vein or beneath the skin. It is suitable for use in patients with high levels of human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2) or hormone receptor positive metastatic breast cancer (cancer this is more sensitive for hormonal changes).

Before receiving CANMAB 50MG INJECTION inform your doctor if you have any heart problems (such as heart attack, heart valve disease, or abnormal heartbeat). You must also inform your doctor if you have hypertension as a precaution.

CANMAB 50MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients with breathing difficulties. It is also not suitable for use in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Both men and women receiving CANMAB 50MG INJECTION must use a suitable contraceptive method to avoid pregnancy while undergoing therapy with CANMAB 50MG INJECTION.

The most common side effects of receiving this medicine are increased infections, sore throat, mouth ulcers, skin rashes, nausea, stomach upset, lack of sleep, weight loss, tingling and numbness of hands and feet, muscle pain, joint pain, hair loss, shakiness and increased sweating. Consult your doctor if any of these side effect worsens.

It is used to treat:

  • Breast cancer (early and advanced)
  • Stomach cancer (advanced)

HOW CANMAB 50MG INJECTION WORKS

CANMAB 50MG INJECTION is a monoclonal antibody. It works by blocking the actions of certain cellular proteins (HER2) that triggers cancer cell formation. It also blocks various downstream cell signalling pathways that triggers cancer growth within the body. As a result, it reduces cancer formation and prevents its further growth within the body.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

CANMAB 50MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into the vein (intravenously) or beneath the skin (subcutaneously).

Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF CANMAB 50MG INJECTION

COMMON

  • increased infections
  • low RBC, WBC and platelet counts in blood
  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, constipation, indigestion
  • mouth ulcers, sore throat
  • hair loss
  • bladder infection
  • headache, dizziness, tiredness, weakness
  • liver inflammation, weight loss, lack of appetite
  • pain, numbness, tingling sensation of hands and feet
  • restlessness, problems in falling asleep, anxiety, depression
  • flushing (skin redness), skin rash or itching, acne
  • eye inflammation, dry eyes or watery eyes

UNCOMMON

  • hearing problems
  • bumpy skin rash
  • inflammation or scarring of lungs

RARE

Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • fever, chills, flu-like symptoms, nausea, vomiting, increased muscle tension and shaking, headache, dizziness, breathing difficulties, high or low blood pressure, heart rhythm disturbances swelling of the face and lips, rash and tiredness
  • signs of heart failure (such as breathlessness, cough, fluid retention (swelling) in the legs or arms, palpitations)
  • kidney problems (weakness, shortness of breath, fatigue and confusion), heart problems (fluttering of the heart), fits, vomiting or diarrhoea and tingling in the mouth, hands or feet

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Mouth Ulcers

Avoid eating spicy foods. Drink plenty of water. Apply a pain-relieving gel on the affected areas of the mouth if required. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

Constipation

Try to eat more high-fibre foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables, cereals, and drink plenty of water. Try doing exercise regularly (going for a daily walk or run). If this does not help, inform your doctor for receiving alternate treatments for constipation.

Diarrhea

Drink lots of fluids, such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to treat diarrhoea and consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

Dizziness Or Drowsiness

Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Consult your doctor if your dizziness worsens.

Nausea And Vomiting

Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. If your nausea worsens, consult your doctor for advice

Skin Rash Or Itching

Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use protective clothing when going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin. Consult your doctor if your skin rash worsens.

Headache

Rest and relax. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on your forehead can be beneficial. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
Contraindicated

CANMAB 50MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it. Women of childbearing potential must use a suitable contraceptive to avoid pregnancy while undergoing therapy with CANMAB 50MG INJECTION and until 7 months after stopping the therapy. If you accidentally became pregnant while receiving CANMAB 50MG INJECTION, inform your doctor immediately.

BREASTFEEDING
Contraindicated

CANMAB 50MG INJECTION may pass through breast milk. Therefore, it is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. However, consult your doctor before receiving it.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Use with Caution

Do not drive or operate any machines if your ability is affected by CANMAB 50MG INJECTION.

ALCOHOL
Consult your doctor

Avoid consumption of alcohol while receiving CANMAB 50MG INJECTION as it may make you feel drowsier.

ALLERGY
Contraindicated

Talk to your doctor before receiving CANMAB 50MG INJECTION if you are allergic to Trastuzumab.

LUNGS
