INTRODUCTION

CALCIFIT D contains Cholecalciferol which belongs to the group of medicine called Vitamin D analogs. It is used in the treatment and prevention of vitamin D deficiency. Cholecalciferol is a type of vitamin D3 which is synthesized by the skin when exposed to natural sunlight or obtained by taking healthy diet. Deficiency of vitamin D3 might occur if your lifestyle or diet does not provide enough vitamin D or in certain conditions when your body requires more vitamin D (for example: when you are pregnant).

Vitamin D3 is necessary for the proper growth and development of bones, teeth and immune system in children and adolescents. It also contributes to the maintenance of normal bones, teeth, muscle function and serum calcium levels in adults. It acts by increasing the absorption of calcium and phosphorus from the diet and enhances bone formation and growth.

CALCIFIT D should be used with caution in patients eating foods or drinking milk enriched with vitamin D. During the course of treatment, your doctor might recommend you have regular blood tests in order to monitor the amount of calcium in your blood.

This medicine is generally well tolerated and does not cause any side effects. However, if you experience any skin reactions such as rash or itching, check with your physician. Before taking this medicine inform your doctor if you have any kidney, liver or heart disease. If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your doctor before taking this medicine. Your doctor would recommend a suitable dose and duration for you.

HOW CALCIFIT D WORKS

Cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) works by increasing the absorption of calcium and phosphorus (from the diet) as well as in the incorporation of calcium into the bone tissues. It also contributes to the maintenance of normal blood calcium levels in the body which helps in the prevention of bone depletion disorders. It helps in maintaining healthy bones, teeth and muscle function in both children and adults.

Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, weight and health condition.
