Introduction About BETAGAN EYE DROPS
BETAGAN EYE DROPS contains Levobunolol which belongs to a group of medicines called Beta blockers. BETAGAN EYE DROPS is used to manage glaucoma, which is a condition that occurs due to build-up of pressure within the eye generally characterized by symptoms such as severe headache, blurred vision, and/or eye redness in affected individuals.
BETAGAN EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Levobunolol. It is also not recommended for use in patients with/history of asthma/other lung diseases (such as severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), and/or heart diseases (such as slow heartbeat, heart failure/heartbeat disorders).
Before using BETAGAN EYE DROPS, inform your doctor if you suffer from poor blood circulation disease (such as Raynaud’s disease/syndrome), diabetes, overactive thyroid, and/or scheduled for any surgery.
BETAGAN EYE DROPS is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy unless it is clearly necessary. It is also not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless it is needed.
BETAGAN EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) and is advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above) after consulting the doctor.
The most common side effects of using BETAGAN EYE DROPS are eye irritation, eye pain, and/or inflammation of outermost layer of the eyes/eyelids. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsens.

- Manage glaucoma (build-up of pressure within the eye) in affected individuals
How BETAGAN EYE DROPS Works
BETAGAN EYE DROPS works by decreasing the production of aqueous humour (fluid) in the eye which results in lowered pressure in the eye thus managing glaucoma in affected individuals.
How to use BETAGAN EYE DROPS
Always use BETAGAN EYE DROPS as directed by your physician. It is for ophthalmic use only. Wash your hands thoroughly before application. Tear one single-dose container from the strip and hold the container upright and twist off the top. Tilt your head back and look at the ceiling. Gently pull the lower lid down until there is a small pocket and turn the container upside down to squeeze it to release a drop into each eye that needs management. Close your managed and press your finger against its corner (where the eye meets the nose) and hold it for two minutes. Avoid contamination by not having the open-end of the container touch your eye or anything else. Each container should only be used once, so do not re-use even if there is solution remaining. Wipe off any excess liquid from your cheek with a clean tissue. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

Stop using BETAGAN EYE DROPS and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- signs of serious allergic reactions such as rash, swallowing/breathing difficulties (including asthma), swelling of face, lips, throat/tongue
- loss of consciousness
- unusual/slow heartbeat
- low blood pressure

Pregnancy
BETAGAN EYE DROPS is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy unless it is clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before using the medicine.
Breastfeeding
BETAGAN EYE DROPS is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless it is clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before using the medicine.
Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or operate machines if you experience tiredness, dizziness, and/or blurred/abnormal vision after using BETAGAN EYE DROPS.
Allergy
Do not use BETAGAN EYE DROPS if you are allergic to Levobunolol, and/or any other ingredients of this medicine.
Lungs
BETAGAN EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in patients with/history of asthma/other lung diseases such as severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Consult your doctor before using the medicine.
Heart Disease
BETAGAN EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in patients with/history of heart problems such as slow heartbeat, heart failure, and/or heartbeat disorders. It should be used with caution in patients with other heart problems such as coronary heart disease. Consult your doctor before using the medicine.
Others
Before using BETAGAN EYE DROPS, inform your doctor if you:
- suffer from poor blood circulation disease such as Raynaud’s disease/syndrome
- have diabetes
- have overactive thyroid
- suffer from problems associated with the surface of eyes
- had undergone eye surgery (to lower pressure in the eye)
- are scheduled for a surgery.
Use in Pediatrics:
BETAGAN EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). Consult your doctor before using BETAGAN EYE DROPS.
Use in Geriatrics:
BETAGAN EYE DROPS should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above). Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
Interactions
A. Drug - Drug interactions:
Before using BETAGAN EYE DROPS, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- medicines used to manage high blood pressure such as oral beta blockers (Ex. acebutolol, atenolol)
- medicines used to manage heart conditions (Ex. amiodarone, digoxin)
- other medicines used to manage glaucoma (Ex. Bimatoprost, Latanoprost)
- adrenaline (used to dilate your pupil)
- medicines used to manage diabetes (Ex. metformin, glitazone)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally instils too much of BETAGAN EYE DROPS, then wash your eyes with clean water. Excess quantity of this medicine is unlikely to cause any side effects. However, if any discomfort experienced then consult your doctor immediately.
