    Introduction About ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET

    ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET is a combination of Atorvastatin, Folic Acid, Methylcobalamin and Pyridoxine which belongs to the group of medicines called HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors and Homocysteine lowering vitamins respectively. It is used to manage Hyperlipidemia and Homocysteinemia (high levels of homocysteine, an amino acid linked to cardiovascular diseases due to deficiencies of vitamins B9 (folic acid), Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), or B12 (Methylcobalamin). It is indicated along with lifestyle modifications for lipid lowering in patients with hyperlipidemia.

    Avoid consumption of grapefruit juice or alcohol while taking this medicine as it may lead to unwanted interactions. ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET is not recommended in patients with liver problems, abnormal liver function tests, or cancer (unless you have anaemia due to a deficiency of folic acid).

    ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with Leber's disease is Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (Sudden Vision Loss), folic acid or iron deficiency, hypokalaemia (low levels of potassium), pernicious anaemia (preventing the absorption of vitamin B12) or vitamin B12 deficiency, a tumour, had a history of stroke (bleeding into the brain), hypothyroidism (under-active thyroid gland), experienced persistent or uncontrollable muscle pain or aches, a family history of muscle problems, had experienced muscle problems when using other lipid-lowering medications, diabetes, high blood pressure, lung disease such as respiratory failure, kidney disease, heart diseases having a coronary stent.

    ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use by pregnant women. Do not take ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET if you are planning to get pregnant. ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET is not recommended for breastfeeding women. ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use by children under the age of 12 years.

    The most common side effects of taking ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET are inflammation of the nasal passages, pain in the throat, nosebleeds, and allergic reactions. An increase in blood sugar levels and blood creatine kinase, headache, nausea, constipation, flatulence, indigestion, diarrhea, joint pain, muscle pain, and back pain abnormal liver function test, drowsiness, mild numbness, or tingling. Contact your doctor if any of the symptoms get worse.

    How ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET Works

    ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET works by inhibiting the action of an enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase, which is required to catalyse the formation of cholesterol, thus it reduces the high cholesterol and risk of heart disease. Folic acid is used to manage anaemia, a vitamin necessary for the growth and functioning of new cells.

    Methylcobalamin is used to manage peripheral neuropathy and anaemia. Pyridoxine, which is Vitamin B6, is used to manage damaged peripheral nerves (peripheral neuritis) and manages low blood levels of vitamin B6. Together used to lower cholesterol levels and manages homocysteinemia due to Vitamin B9, Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12 deficiencies.

    How to use ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET

    Take ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Take the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Depending on your age, body weight, and disease condition, your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you.

    Side Effects Of ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET

    Common

    • nosebleed, throat pain, and nasal passage inflammation
    • allergic reactions
    • increases in blood sugar levels
    • increase in blood creatine kinase
    • headache
    • nausea, constipation, flatulence, indigestion, diarrhoea
    • back pain, muscle and joint pain
    • abnormal liver function test
    • drowsiness
    • mild numbness or tingling

    Uncommon

    • loss of appetite
    • weight gain
    • decreases in blood sugar levels
    • nightmares, insomnia
    • dizziness, numbness or tingling in the fingers and toes
    • decreased sensation of pain or touch
    • change in sense of taste
    • loss of memory
    • blurred vision
    • ringing in the ears and/or head
    • vomiting, burping, upper and lower abdominal pain
    • pancreatitis (pancreatic inflammation causing stomach pain)
    • hepatitis (liver inflammation)
    • rashes, itching, hives, and hair loss
    • neck pain
    • chest pain
    • lethargy
    • fatigue, feeling sick and weak
    • inflammation, notably in the ankles (oedema)
    • fever
    • urine tests showing the presence of white blood cells

    Rare

    • sudden injuries or bleeding
    • skin and eye whites becoming yellow
    • visual problems
    • tendon damage

    Stop taking ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET and contact your physician immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • serious allergic reactions such as skin rash, itch, redness, swelling of the face, tongue and throat causing difficulty in breathing, chest tightness or swallowing, shock (cold sweaty skin, weak pulse, dry mouth, dilated pupils, dizziness, weakness, or fainting)
    • skin rash, flaking skin, boils or sore lips and mouth or serious illness with severe peeling and swelling of the skin, blistering on the skin, mouth, eyes, genitals, and fever. skin rash that may blister and has pink-red spots, notably on the palms of the hands or soles of the feet
    • muscle weakness, tenderness, pain or rupture, red-brown discolouration of urine and particularly, feeling unwell, fever caused by an abnormal muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis) and lead to kidney problems
    • unexpected or unusual bleeding or bruising, due to liver problem

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Bloating

    Eat smaller and more frequent meals. Eat and drink slowly, and exercise regularly. If the flatulence does not improve, contact your doctor.

    Constipation

    Eat plenty of fibre-rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and cereals. Drink water and exercise regularly. Contact your doctor if constipation persists.

    Diarrhea

    Drink plenty of water and fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Contact your doctor if the diarrhoea did not improve.

    Dizziness Or Drowsiness

    Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating machinery if you feel drowsiness or dizziness. Avoid alcohol consumption as it aggravates dizziness or drowsiness. Contact your doctor if dizziness or drowsiness worsens.

    Headache

    Rest and relax. Drink plenty of electrolytes and water. If necessary, apply a balm to the head to relieve the pain. Do not consume alcohol. Contact your doctor if the headache did not improve.

    Loss Of Appetite

    Eat when you are hungry. Eat smaller meals more often than usual. Snack only when you're hungry. Consume a healthy, calorie- and protein-rich snack like nuts or dried fruit.

    Nausea And Vomiting

    Take the medicine, with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food. If nausea and vomiting do not improve, consult your doctor.

    Skin rash Or Itching

    Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate the skin. Do not scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors. Use moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the affected skin area. Contact your doctor if the itching worsens.

    Stomach Pain

    Try to rest and relax. Eat small meals but take them frequently. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. Contact your doctor if the stomach pain did not improve.

    ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women. Do not take ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET if you planning to get pregnant unless you use effective contraception. Contact your doctor before taking ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET.

    Breastfeeding

    ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET is not recommended in breastfeeding women. Contact your doctor before taking ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Use with Caution

    ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET does not affect your ability to drive or operate machines. However, do not drive or operate any machines if your ability to drive or operate machines is affected by this medicine.

    Alcohol

    Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET.

    Kidney

    Use with Caution

    ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease and dialysis patients. Contact your doctor before taking ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET.

    Liver

    Contraindicated

    ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET is not recommended in patients with liver disease. Contact your doctor before taking ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET.

    Allergy

    Contraindicated

    Do not take ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET if you are allergic to atorvastatin or folic acid or methylcobalamin or pyridoxine or Intolerance to lactose or other sugars or other ingredients of this medicine.

    Lungs

    Use with Caution

    ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with lung diseases such as respiratory failure. Contact your doctor before taking ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET.

    Heart Disease

    Use with Caution

    ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with high blood pressure, and heart disease (having a coronary stent). Contact your doctor before taking ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET.

    Use In Pediatrics

    Contraindicated

    ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children under the age of 12 years.

    Use In Geriatrics

    Use with Caution

    ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET should be used with caution if you are older than 70 years of age. Consult your doctor for advice.

    Others

    ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:

    • cancer (unless you have anaemia due to a deficiency of folic acid)

    Before taking ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have:

    • leber's disease is hereditary optic neuropathy (sudden vision loss) 
    • folic acid or iron deficiency
    • hypokalaemia (low levels of potassium)

    • antibiotics e.g., erythromycin, clarithromycin, chloramphenicol, telithromycin (trimethoprim and sulphonamides, sometimes combined as co-trimoxazole) and fusidic acid, (medicines for bacterial infection)
    • cimetidine (a medicine used to manage heartburn and peptic ulcer)
    • colchicine (a medicine used to manage gout)
    • phenytoin, phenobarbital, stiripentol and primidone (a medicine used to control epilepsy, and fits)
    • edible clay and antacids containing aluminium or magnesium, used to manage indigestion
    • oral contraceptives (a medicine used to manage pregnancy)
    • medicines used in the management of hepatitis C e.g., telaprevir, boceprevir and the combination of glecaprevir/pibrentasvir, elbasvir/grazoprevir, ledipasvir/sofosbuvir
    • cyclosporin (medicines used to manage rejection of a transplanted organ)
    • ketoconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, fluconazole, Posaconazole (medicines used for fungal infections)

    • amlodipine, diltiazem (medicines used for high blood pressure and chest pain)

    • ritonavir, lopinavir, atazanavir, indinavir, darunavir, tipranavir/ritonavir, letermovir (medicine used for viral infections)

    • hydralazine (a medicine used to manage high blood pressure and heart failure)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of ATHEROCHEK 10MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose may include bitter taste, loss of appetite, nausea, flatulence, nightmares, agitation, depression, and fits.
