INTRODUCTION

ASTHALIN contains Salbutamol which belongs to a group of medicines known as selective beta-2-adrenergicagonists, which can be used to relax the muscles of the airways and womb. It works by relaxing the muscles of the airways into the lungs, which makes it easier to breathe. It is used to treat wheezing and shortness of breath caused by breathing problems (such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has directed you. Swallow the medicine with water. This medicine is not recommended for children under 2 years of age. Do not take if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to salbutamol or any other ingredients in this medicine. Do not drive or handle any machines while taking this medicine. Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if have high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid gland, diabetes, or low levels of potassium in your blood to make sure it is safe.

HOW ASTHALIN WORKS

ASTHALIN works by relaxing the muscles of the airways into the lungs, which makes it easier to breathe.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has directed you. Swallow the medicine with water. Follow the directions on the label before use. 

SIDE EFFECTS OF ASTHALIN

SERIOUS

  • swelling of the face, lips, throat or tongue, pale orred irregular raised patches with severe itching (hives)
  • difficulty breathing
  • low blood pressure
  • chest, jaw or shoulder pain (accompanied with shortness of breath, feeling or being sick)
  • irregular heartbeat
  • fatigue, muscle spasms (low blood potassium)
  • weakness, rapid breathing, stomach pain (lactic acid increase in the body)

COMMON

  • tremor
  • headache
  • dizziness
  • heart beating much faster than normal, palpitations
  • feeling sick
  • muscle cramps

RARE

  • increased blood sugar levels (hyperglycaemia)
  • increase in heart function and heart rate
  • feeling of restlessness and inability to stay still (akathisia) and hyperactivity

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Feeling sick (nausea) or indigestion:

Stick to simple meals and do not eat rich or spicy foods.

Drowsiness or dizziness:

Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.

Muscle cramps:

Stretch the muscle and gently rub it to relax. Use a warm cloth or heating pad on tense or tight muscles.

PREGNANCY

ASTHALIN should be used with caution in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

BREASTFEEDING

ASTHALIN should be used with caution in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

ASTHALIN may cause dizziness. Do not drive or handle any machines while taking this medicine.

ALLERGY

Do not take if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to salbutamol or any other ingredients in this medicine.

HEART DISEASE

ASTHALIN should be used with caution in patients suffering from active heart diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.

OTHERS

Tell your doctor if you have or had a condition such as,

  • threatened abortion (potential miscarriage)
  • an overactive thyroid gland (thyrotoxicosis)
  • diabetes

INTERACTIONS

Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription or the following:

  • propranolol (beta blockers)
  • tranylcypromine, clomipramine (used for depression)
  • corticosteroids
  • digoxin (used for heart problems)
  • theophylline, aminophylline (used for asthma)

What would happen if I take higher than the recommended dose of ASTHALIN?

When you take a high dose than the recommended dose may cause seizures, chest pain, nervousness, headache, dry mouth, nausea, dizziness and lack of energy. In such cases, seek immediate medical attention.
