APIDRA SOLOSTAR 100IU PEN(DISPO) contains Insulin glulisine which belongs to the group of medicines called rapid-acting recombinant human insulin analog. It is used to lower high blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease associated with abnormally high levels of glucose in the blood due to inadequate production of insulin (a hormone produced by pancreas to metabolize glucose) or inadequate sensitivity of cells to insulin.

Always consult your doctor before doing any physical activity and be careful about the time intervals between your meals. Regularly monitor your blood sugar levels, because this medicine may cause hypoglycemia which may put your life in danger. To avoid this potential risk, always carry some amount of sugar with you.

APIDRA SOLOSTAR 100IU PEN(DISPO) should be injected only using a pre-filled pen. It can be taken within 15 minutes of a meal or soon after a meal. It can be used in both in adults as well as in adolescents and children aged 6 years or above. Avoid smoking and consumption of alcohol while taking this medicine. The most common side effect of this medicine is application site redness, itching or swelling. Before taking this medicine inform your doctor if you have any kidney, liver or heart disease. Dose adjustments may be required for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

  • Treats diabetes mellitus in adults and in adolescents and children aged 6 years or above

Insulin glulisine acts in same way as naturally produced insulin and helps glucose enter cells from the blood and thus controls the level of blood glucose. Hence it reduces the symptoms and complications of diabetes.

APIDRA SOLOSTAR 100IU PEN(DISPO) should be taken within 15 minutes before or soon after meals. Do not overuse any injection site and be sure to use a different injection site each time to avoid application site reactions. Your doctor will decide the correct dose, duration and time for you depending upon your age, weight and body condition.

As subcutaneous injection: This medicine can be injected under the skin (subcutaneously) of the abdominal wall, thigh or upper arm.

  • Before using, always check the label to make sure you have the correct insulin. Remove the pen cap and check for the appearance of the insulin.
  • Keep the needle straightly with the pen and attach it by screwing or pressing.
  • Always perform the safety test before each injection to ensure that you get an accurate dose.
  • Select the dose required for you (from 1-80 Units) by turning the dosage selector. If more than 80 Units is required, give it as two or more injections.
  • Carefully insert the needle into the skin of the abdominal wall, thigh or upper arm and gently press the injection button to deliver the dose. Wait for at least 10 seconds before you withdraw the needle.
  • Remove the needle and discard it with cap on it. Always put the pen cap back on the pen and store it without needle attached until your next injection.

As intravenous infusion: This medicine can also be given as a continuous intravenous infusion in the abdominal wall by a healthcare professional.
