    Introduction About ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET

    ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET is a combination of Alogliptin and Metformin, which belongs to the group of medicines called Antidiabetic agents. It is used to manage diabetes mellitus when it cannot be adequately controlled by diet, exercise, and other anti-diabetic medicines such as metformin alone, insulin alone, or metformin and pioglitazone taken together.

    During management with ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET, your doctor will check your kidney function at least once a year or more frequently if you are elderly and/or have worsening kidney function.

    ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET is not recommended for use if you have severe breathing difficulties, severely reduced kidney function, liver disease, or if you recently had a heart attack or have severe circulatory problems, including shock. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET is not recommended for use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Consult your doctor before taking it. ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years due to the lack of data in these patients. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    The most common side effects of taking ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET are stomach pain, diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects worsen.

    How ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET Works

    ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET effectively controls blood glucose levels, where alogliptin works by increasing the levels of insulin in the body after a meal and helps decrease the blood glucose levels. Metformin also helps to lower blood glucose by decreasing the amount of sugar made in the liver and helping insulin work more effectively.

    How to use ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET

    Take ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET with food or as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending on your age, body weight, and disease condition. Do not stop taking ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET unless your doctor advises you to stop.

    Side Effects Of ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET

    Common

    • stomach pain, diarrhea, indigestion, heartburn, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting
    • symptoms of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) include trembling, sweating, anxiety, blurred vision, tingling lips, paleness, mood changes, or feeling confused
    • cold symptoms such as a sore throat, blocked nose, feeling tired, fever, chills, and dry cough
    • rash, itchy skin with or without hives
    • headache
    • metallic taste

    Rare

    Stop taking ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET and consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • symptoms of a serious allergic reaction (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), such as rash, hives (raised red patches on your skin), swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and throat that may cause difficulty breathing or swallowing. Other symptoms may include general itching and a feeling of heat, especially affecting the scalp, mouth, throat, palms of hands, and soles of feet
    • signs of bullous pemphigoid, such as blistering of the skin
    • symptoms of lactic acidosis such as vomiting, abdominal pain, muscle cramps, a general feeling of not being well with severe tiredness, difficulty breathing, and reduced body temperature and heartbeat

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Diarrhea

    Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices, to keep yourself hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own to manage diarrhea. Contact your doctor if your diarrhea does not improve.

    Headache

    Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids, such as water or ORS (Oral Rehydrating Solution) and apply a pain-relieving balm to the head if necessary. Contact your doctor if your headache does not improve.

    Hypoglycemia

    Have foods rich in sugars, such as fruit juices, glucose drinks, candies, honey, or biscuits. Check your blood sugar after 10 minutes. If you have not reached your optimum level, take another sugary snack or drink and check your blood sugar levels once again. Contact your doctor if there is no improvement in your condition.

    Indigestion

    Eat smaller and more frequent meals. Eat and drink slowly, and exercise regularly. If the indigestion does not improve, contact your doctor.

    Nausea And Vomiting

    Take ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET with a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food. Contact your doctor if your nausea and vomiting do not improve.

    Skin rash Or Itching

    Avoid hot baths because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing while going outside. Use unscented moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the affected area. Contact your doctor if your rashes worsen.

    Stomach Pain

    Rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller and more frequent meals. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. Do not self-manage on your own, consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve on its own.

    ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET is not recommended for use if you are pregnant. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Breastfeeding

    Contraindicated

    ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Driving and Using Machines

    ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET does not affect your ability to drive and use machines.

    Alcohol

    Risky

    Avoid excessive consumption of alcohol while taking ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET, as it may increase the risk of lactic acidosis.

    Kidney

    Contraindicated

    ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET is not recommended for use if you have severely reduced kidney function. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Liver

    Contraindicated

    ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET is not recommended for use if you have liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Allergy

    Others

    ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

    • have had a serious allergic reaction to any other antidiabetic medicines
    • have uncontrolled diabetes, with lactic acidosis or ketoacidosis (a condition in which ketone bodies accumulate in the blood and which can lead to diabetic pre-coma)
    • have a severe infection or are seriously dehydrated

    Before taking ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

    • have type 1 diabetes (your body does not produce insulin)
    • have had a disease of the pancreas
    • are scheduled for major surgery
    • are planned for an x-ray or scan

    Interactions

    A. Drug-drug interactions:

    Before taking ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines, such as:

    • insulin, thiazolidinedione, sulphonylurea (other medicines used to manage diabetes mellitus), glipizide, tolbutamide, glibenclamide, and rosiglitazone
    • corticosteroids (used to manage inflammatory conditions like arthritis and asthma) Ex. hydrocortisone and prednisolone
    • cimetidine (used to manage stomach problems)
    • bronchodilators (beta-2 agonists), used to manage asthma Ex. salbutamol, levosalbutamol
    • medicines that increase urine production (diuretics) Ex. furosemide
    • medicines used to manage pain and inflammation (NSAIDs and COX-2-inhibitors such as ibuprofen and celecoxib)
    • certain medicines used for the management of high blood pressure (ACE inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor antagonists) Ex. enalapril, losartan
    • medicines containing alcohol

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally took more ALOJA M 12.5 TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
