INTRODUCTION

ALDONIL 50MG contains Epalrestat which belongs to the group of medicines called aldose reductase inhibitor. It is used in the treatment of diabetic nephropathy. Diabetic neuropathy is a type of nerve pain that occurs due to increased accumulation of glucose (e.g. sorbitol) in the nerves and tissues. It is characterized by spontaneous pain and numbness in your legs, tingling and burning sensation, coldness and hypoesthesia.

Epalrestat works by delaying the accumulation of sorbitol in sciatic nerve or other tissues of diabetic patients, which in turn helps in delaying the progression of diabetic neuropathy. Try taking this medicine at the same time each day. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and health condition. Do not stop taking this medicine abruptly without consulting your doctor, as it may leads to recurrence of nerve pain. Avoid smoking and consumption of alcohol while taking this medicine.

This medicine is generally well-tolerated and does not pose any side effects. However, in few people it may cause nausea, vomiting, headache or backpain. Contact your doctor if any of the symptoms bothers you. Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney or heart problems. ALDONIL 50MG is not recommended for use in pregnant and lactating women due to lack of safety data.
