World First Aid Day is observed worldwide on the second Saturday of September every year to raise awareness among people about the importance of first aid in saving lives and averting injuries in emergency situations.
It was established by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in 2000 and has been observed each year ever since. This year's theme for The World First Day is First Aid and Road Safety.

According to the recent statistics, every year about 5 lakhs road accidents happen in India, where the mortality is 1.5 lakhs and around 3 lakhs people are injured. In fact, road accidents are one of the main cause of deaths worldwide. The government of India intends to lower death and accident rate by 50% by 2022.

The most common reason for road accident death is due to a lack of oxygen supply. This happens due to blocked airway and generally, it takes lesser than 4 minutes for a blocked airway to cause mortality. So, it is imperative to restore oxygen supply immediately.

The first hour post-accident or trauma is known as the golden hour. If basic first aid is provided effectively, road accidents victims have a better chance of existence and lower danger of injuries.
