Uses of Ibandronic Acid
Ibandronic Acid is used in the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis and management of bone metastasis in breast cancer to help prevent bone fractures and other bone problems that may need surgery or radiotherapy. It is also used in the management of high calcium levels in the blood due to a tumour.

How Ibandronic Acid works
Ibandronic Acid lowers osteoclast activity and reduces bone resorption, which helps to reduce pain and strengthen the bone. It also reduces the amount of calcium that is lost from the bones and aids in the normalisation of blood calcium levels and prevents fractures.
Common side effects of Ibandronic Acid
- headache
- heartburn, stomach pain, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
- muscle pain, pain in joints or back
- flu-like symptoms (fever, shaking, shivering, a feeling of discomfort, bone pain and aching muscles and joints)

Health Tips for Ibandronic Acid
- Ibandronic Acid should be taken on an empty stomach in the morning, at least 60 minutes before consuming any food, beverages, or other medications. This helps maximise absorption and reduce the risk of irritation to the esophagus
- After taking Ibandronic Acid, remain in an upright position (sitting or standing) for at least 60 minutes. Avoid lying down or bending over during this time to minimize the potential for oesophageal irritation
- Practise good oral hygiene and report any dental issues to your dentist while on this medication
- Adopt a healthy lifestyle, including regular weight-bearing exercises, to support bone health while on Ibandronic Acid
- Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption while taking Ibandronic Acid, as it can negatively impact bone health
